Composer Sai Abhyankkar Addresses Music Change in Suriya's Upcoming Film Karuppu
Young music composer Sai Abhyankkar has finally broken his silence regarding the widely discussed change in the music department of the highly anticipated film Karuppu, starring superstar Suriya. The film, directed by RJ Balaji, was initially announced with music by the legendary Oscar-winning composer A. R. Rahman, but Sai Abhyankkar later stepped into the role, sparking considerable curiosity and speculation among fans and industry observers alike.
Unaware of Rahman's Initial Involvement
In a recent interview, Sai Abhyankkar clarified that he was completely unaware of A. R. Rahman's earlier association with the project when he first received the offer. The sudden call to work on a major film like Karuppu came as a genuine surprise, and the composer admitted he had numerous questions at that moment about the circumstances surrounding the change.
Personal Conversation with AR Rahman
Sai Abhyankkar revealed in a detailed chat with The Hollywood Reporter India that he personally spoke to A. R. Rahman before accepting the project. "I didn't know about it actually... I spoke to Rahman sir regarding that... He was absolutely fine with it," the composer shared. He further explained that when he saw the film's early promotional material carrying Rahman's name, he was confused and attempted to understand what had transpired. "I asked why... what happened... but I didn't get a clear answer," he stated. Despite this initial confusion, Sai chose to move forward with respect and professional responsibility once the production team confirmed their decision.
Embracing Responsibility and Opportunity
The composer elaborated that once the filmmakers and Suriya placed their trust in him with the project, he felt a profound sense of duty to deliver exceptional work. "If the production, Suriya sir and Balaji sir want me to do it, then it's my duty to do it," he emphasized. Karuppu is expected to be a rural action entertainer, with Suriya reportedly playing a powerful mass character, as hinted in the recently released teaser. Participating in such a large-scale production represents both an enormous challenge and a significant career advancement for Sai Abhyankkar.
Praising AR Rahman's Influence
Sai Abhyankkar also spoke highly about A. R. Rahman's enduring influence, describing him as an inspiring figure in the industry. He noted that Rahman's calm demeanor and patience have taught him valuable professional lessons. "He has a 'God aura'... he is generous and inspiring," Sai shared warmly. The film Karuppu is scheduled for theatrical release on May 14 and features a strong supporting cast including Trisha and Yogi Babu. With Sai's fresh musical approach and the film's substantial pre-release buzz, audiences are eagerly anticipating how this collaboration will translate on the big screen.
The entertainment industry continues to watch closely as this development highlights both the respectful transition between composers and the rising opportunities for new talent in Indian cinema. The situation underscores the importance of clear communication and professional courtesy in high-profile creative projects.
