In a powerful statement, actor Saanand Verma, widely recognized for his role in the popular television show Bhabhiji Ghar Par Hain!, has emphasized that women should not be celebrated solely on International Women's Day but respected consistently every single day. "In my opinion, every day should be Women's Day," he asserts, highlighting a perspective that challenges the annual observance.
Historical Struggles and Societal Suppression of Women
Verma delves into the deep-rooted issues faced by women throughout human history. "Women have suffered immensely over the centuries," he explains. "They have endured widespread injustice, blatant cruelty, systemic exploitation, and profound disrespect. For a very long period, society actively suppressed them, limiting their voices and opportunities." This historical context, he believes, underscores the need for ongoing recognition and support.

For Verma, the importance of women is fundamental and undeniable. "Without women, the world simply cannot exist," he states emphatically. "Every single person on this planet exists because of a woman. She is the one who gives birth to us, nurtures us, and shapes our lives. "However, I firmly believe that every single day we should live our lives with women's comfort, needs, and happiness at the forefront of our minds. Reflecting on the progress made, Verma notes the significant evolution in women's empowerment. "In earlier times, women often could not make decisions independently. Around five decades ago, most choices were dictated for them by others," he recalls. "Today, we see a positive shift where both women and men are increasingly able to make their own decisions and live according to their personal wishes and aspirations."
He also supports stronger legal protections for women, justifying them based on historical imbalances. "For many years in a predominantly male-dominated society, women endured tremendous suffering. If contemporary laws now provide them with greater support and protection, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that. Women have always possessed inherent power, but now that power is becoming more visible and acknowledged in society."

On the topic of awareness, Verma acknowledges the value of Women's Day initiatives. "International Women's Day plays a vital role in fostering conversations through various campaigns and activities. That awareness is essential for driving social change and promoting gender equality," he remarks.
When asked about International Men's Day, observed on November 19, Verma maintains a neutral stance. "Given that society has historically been male-dominated, men haven't typically required a separate day for recognition. If it is observed, that is perfectly fine as well," he concludes, emphasizing a balanced perspective on gender observances.
