Rhea Chakraborty Makes Emotional Return to Acting with Hansal Mehta's 'Family Business'
After a prolonged and turbulent hiatus from the entertainment industry, actor Rhea Chakraborty is poised for a significant comeback. She will be returning to screens in filmmaker Hansal Mehta's upcoming series titled 'Family Business'. This marks her first major project in years, following a period dominated by legal challenges and intense public scrutiny.
A Painful Hiatus and the Decision to Step Back
Chakraborty's absence from acting was not by choice but a consequence of the events that unfolded after the tragic death of her actor boyfriend, Sushant Singh Rajput, in June 2020. Reflecting on this difficult time, she revealed that stepping away from her career was deeply painful. Having dedicated nearly a decade to establishing herself in the industry, the emotional toll was severe.
In a candid conversation, she admitted that letting go of her dreams to become an actress required several sessions of therapy. "I had to stop thinking about it because I couldn’t have it; I didn’t get acting opportunities," she stated, highlighting the professional drought she faced during those years.
The Catalyst for Comeback: Hansal Mehta's Encouragement
Despite initially turning down multiple projects and distancing herself from acting for several years, Chakraborty credits Hansal Mehta for paving the way for her return. When approached for 'Family Business', Mehta and the writer directly asked her what was holding her back. Upon learning she had left acting, they saw it as a reason to pursue the role even more.
"Hansal sir and the writer asked me what was stopping me. I told them I had left acting and they said that’s all the more reason I should do it because it does not matter whether I do well or not," she recalled. Looking back at her decision to accept the part, she expressed relief, noting, "Now I’m glad I said yes. It was different coming on set, such a long life has been lived in the last seven years."
The Agony of Rejection and Support from Loved Ones
Chakraborty emphasized that the hiatus was not a voluntary decision, describing the years when no one wanted to work with her as "excruciatingly painful." However, she managed to navigate this challenging period with the unwavering support of her friends and family.
She gave due credit to her close-knit circle, particularly her girl group, stating, "Had it not been for my friends and family, I don’t think I would have come out of it the way I did." This support system was crucial in helping her cope with the intense media scrutiny and public backlash she endured.
Reflections on Humanity and Moving Forward
Reflecting on her experiences, Chakraborty shared a poignant perspective on human nature. "I saw the worst side of humans but on the other side I also experienced the most beautiful side of humanity," she said, acknowledging both the hardships and the kindness she encountered.
As she prepares for her return with 'Family Business', this chapter represents not just a professional revival but a personal triumph over adversity. Her journey underscores the resilience required to rebuild a career amid public and legal challenges, with her comeback serving as a testament to perseverance and the power of supportive relationships.
