Rajpal Yadav's Financial Downfall: Debt, Jail Time, and Property Seizure
As Rajpal Yadav awaits his bail hearing today, the actor's ongoing legal and financial troubles have come into sharp focus. Currently serving time in Delhi's Tihar Jail for defaulting on a Rs 9 crore loan, Yadav's situation is compounded by the loss of his ancestral property in Shahjahanpur, valued at crores, due to his inability to repay debts.
Current Imprisonment and Jail Conditions
Rajpal Yadav is incarcerated in Tihar Jail's Central Jail No 2, where he is not receiving any VIP treatment. Reports indicate he is housed in the same barrack that once held notorious figures like Chota Rajan and Neeraj Bawana. His daily routine is strict, beginning at 6 am with morning activities, followed by tea and breakfast, and ending at 6 pm with dinner typically consisting of dal, subzi, roti, and rice. Despite excitement among other inmates to see a celebrity, high security measures prevent them from meeting him.
Previous Jail Stints and Workshops
This is not Yadav's first experience with imprisonment. In 2018, he served a three-month sentence at Tihar Jail for defaulting on a Rs 5 crore loan from Murali Projects Pvt Ltd, which he had taken to produce his film Ata Pata Laapata. During that time, he conducted workshops for fellow prisoners, earning praise from jail authorities. In an interview, he shared that the superintendent awarded him two certificates, noting his positive impact on inmates, who showed improved morale and engagement through his activities. Additionally, Yadav spent four days in Tihar Jail in 2013 for submitting a false affidavit in the same case.
Loan Defaults and Property Seizure
Yadav's financial woes extend beyond the current Rs 9 crore debt. He previously took a Rs 5 crore loan from Central Bank of India's Bandra Kurla Complex branch, which ballooned to Rs 11 crore due to non-repayment. In 2024, the bank sealed his mortgaged ancestral property in Shahjahanpur. Locals reported that the sealing was done hastily, with electrical appliances left on inside the house. This property loss represents a significant blow to his family estate.
Emotional Plea and Support from Bollywood
When surrendering before the Delhi High Court recently, Yadav made an emotional plea, stating, "Sir, what should I do? I don't have the money. I see no other option. Sir, here we are all alone. There are no friends. I have to deal with this crisis on my own." Since his surrender, Bollywood actors such as Salman Khan and Ajay Devgn have reportedly offered monetary support to help him navigate this crisis.
The actor's bail hearing today will determine his immediate future as he continues to grapple with mounting debts and legal challenges.
