Rajpal Yadav Granted Interim Bail in ₹9 Crore Cheque Bounce Case, Speaks Publicly
Actor Rajpal Yadav has broken his silence for the first time after being released from Tihar Jail in connection with a high-profile ₹9 crore cheque bounce case. The relief came on Monday when the Delhi High Court granted him interim bail until March 18, just days after he had surrendered to authorities over the unpaid dues.
Gratitude Expressed to Supporters and Bollywood
Shortly after walking out of jail, Rajpal addressed the media and expressed profound gratitude to his supporters across the country as well as members of the film fraternity. In a video shared by ANI on X, the actor was seen surrounded by his legal team while thanking those who stood by him during this challenging period.
"I will complete 30 years in Bollywood in Mumbai in 2027. People from all over the country, children, old and young, are with me... The way the entire country and the world, my Bollywood, has loved me, if there are any allegations against me, I am available to answer. Thank you, High Court..." he said emotionally.
Court Conditions and Financial Settlement
The High Court suspended his sentence in the cheque bounce cases until March 18 and allowed his release on interim bail. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma granted the relief on the condition that Rajpal furnish a ₹1 lakh bail bond along with one surety. During the hearing, the court had earlier directed him to deposit ₹1.5 crore by 3 PM to qualify for interim bail.
After counsel for the complainant, M/S Murli Project, confirmed that the amount had been credited to the company’s bank account against the dishonoured cheques, the court approved his release. Reports suggest that Rajpal is also planning to hold a press conference to address questions surrounding the case and clarify his position further.
Background of the Legal Dispute
The legal dispute traces back to 2010, when Rajpal borrowed ₹5 crore from Delhi-based Murali Projects Pvt Ltd to finance his directorial venture, Ata Pata Laapata. The film’s poor box office performance led to significant financial difficulties, eventually escalating into a prolonged legal battle.
In April 2018, a Magistrate’s Court convicted Rajpal and his wife Radha under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act after seven cheques issued to the complainant were dishonoured. He was sentenced to six months of simple imprisonment, a decision later upheld by a Sessions Court in early 2019.
Although he deposited ₹75 lakh through two demand drafts by October 2025, the court observed that a substantial portion of the liability remained unsettled. Rajpal is now expected to clear the remaining dues before the next hearing on March 18 to avoid serving his sentence.
Future Legal Proceedings
The actor's legal team is preparing for the upcoming hearing, where the remaining financial obligations must be addressed. The case has drawn significant attention from both the entertainment industry and legal observers, highlighting the financial risks associated with film production and personal guarantees.
Rajpal Yadav's public statement marks a significant moment in this ongoing legal saga, as he seeks to rebuild his reputation while navigating the complex financial and judicial challenges ahead.
