A rap video created by a group from Talwara in Punjab has gone viral, amassing over 3 million views in just 11 hours since its release on the Instagram page 'talwara_cypher'. The song appeals to Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann to extend freebies to men, similar to those provided to women under various state government schemes.
Demand for Equal Financial Assistance
The rap highlights that several Punjab government initiatives, such as the Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojna and the Punjab Free Travel Scheme, are exclusively for women. The group argues that men should also receive financial support, proposing a monthly amount of Rs 500 per month for men, which is half of what women in the general category receive under the Mawan Dhiyan Satkar Yojna.
The lyrics include lines in Punjabi: "CM Mann nu sneha mera pahuncha deyo, bandian de khate joge 500 hi pawa deyo, aiwein na sare paise bibian te uda deyo", which translates to "Give our message to CM Mann, men too should receive Rs 500 in their account, all money should not go to women only."
Concerns Over Gender Discrimination
The rappers also express that they are not from Mars and therefore should not face discrimination. They warn that if such assistance is provided only to women, men could face trouble at home, with women refusing to cook meals for them. The video, released on the morning of June 23, 2026, quickly gained traction, reflecting widespread resonance with the sentiment among Punjabi youth.
The rap cypher group, known for their musical activism, has sparked a debate on gender equality in state welfare schemes. The video's rapid spread indicates a growing demand for inclusive policies that address the needs of all genders.
