Filmmaker Priyadarshan Steps Up to Support Rajpal Yadav in Financial Crisis

Bollywood actor Rajpal Yadav remains incarcerated in Delhi's Tihar Jail following a legal case involving a bounced cheque worth Rs 9 crore. The actor surrendered to authorities recently, sparking concern across the entertainment industry. In a heartwarming development, veteran filmmaker Priyadarshan has taken concrete steps to assist the jailed actor during this difficult period.

Priyadarshan Requests Fee Increase for Rajpal Yadav's Next Film

According to a Mid-Day report, Priyadarshan has personally intervened with the producers of his upcoming film starring Rajpal Yadav. The director revealed that he specifically asked the production team to pay Yadav more than his standard fee due to the actor's current financial struggles. Priyadarshan confirmed that the producers have agreed to this arrangement.

"I told the producers of my next film to pay Rajpal more than what he charges because of his situation," Priyadarshan told the publication. "We want to save him. The producers have agreed. Rajpal plays the villain in my movie."

Two Decades of Professional Relationship

Priyadarshan shared that he has known Rajpal Yadav for over twenty years, having first noticed the actor's talent in the film 'Jungle'. The director expressed being "surprised" by Yadav's performance in that early role. Their professional collaboration began with the 2006 comedy 'Malamaal Weekly', after which Yadav appeared in several of Priyadarshan's subsequent projects.

The filmmaker acknowledged he was aware of Yadav's financial difficulties even before the current crisis became public. "I knew about his problem. That's why I kept signing Rajpal for every film," Priyadarshan explained. "I pushed him in ad films too. The poor guy made a blunder because of his poor education. Rajpal is a good soul."

Background of Rajpal Yadav's Legal Troubles

The actor's current predicament stems from a 2010 loan of Rs 5 crore that he obtained to finance his directorial debut, 'Ata Pata Laapata'. The film eventually released in 2012 but failed to perform commercially at the box office. This financial setback prevented Yadav from repaying the borrowed amount to his lender.

The situation escalated when multiple cheques issued by the actor bounced, leading to legal proceedings. A Delhi court ultimately ordered Yadav's imprisonment in the cheque bounce case. The actor's bail plea hearing, which was adjourned on February 12, 2026, is scheduled to resume on Monday.

Industry Support During Crisis

Since news of Yadav's surrender to Tihar Jail surfaced, several celebrities from the entertainment industry have expressed support for the actor. Priyadarshan's practical intervention represents one of the most tangible forms of assistance offered during this challenging period. The filmmaker's actions highlight how industry relationships can extend beyond professional collaborations to provide genuine support during personal crises.

The entertainment community continues to monitor Yadav's legal situation closely as the court proceedings advance. The actor's case serves as a reminder of the financial pressures that can affect even established performers in the film industry, particularly when personal ventures encounter commercial difficulties.
