Patralekhaa Confronts Body-Shaming After Welcoming Daughter, Launches Production Career
Bollywood actress Patralekhaa has found herself navigating the dual challenges of new motherhood and a burgeoning production career, while also facing unwarranted criticism about her physical appearance. The actress, who recently welcomed her first child with husband and fellow actor Rajkummar Rao, has publicly addressed body-shaming remarks that surfaced online following a screening of her debut production.
A Joyful Arrival and Professional Milestone
Rajkummar Rao and Patralekhaa announced the arrival of their daughter, Parvati Paul Rao, in November 2025, marking a significant personal milestone for the couple. Simultaneously, Patralekhaa embarked on a new professional journey as a producer with the film Toaster, which features Rajkummar alongside actress Sanya Malhotra. This dual transition represents a major life chapter for the actress, who has been balancing the demands of postpartum recovery with her creative ambitions.
Confronting Insensitive Online Remarks
Following a recent screening of Toaster, Patralekhaa became the target of body-shaming comments on social media, with several pages criticizing her post-pregnancy appearance. In response, she took to Instagram Stories to deliver a powerful message about postpartum realities and the need for greater kindness.
She wrote passionately, “Pap pages! What’s happened to me!? is that I have just given birth! Yes I have gained the weight, which seems like an unnatural phenomenon to you all. I have not sat and eaten a mountain, I just delivered a baby and produced two films simultaneously which are not easy jobs. If I could I would not be this way. But that’s how my body has reacted to pregnancy. For God’s sake please learn to be a little kind.”
Navigating Motherhood and Career Commitments
In an earlier conversation with IANS, Patralekhaa opened up about her experience of managing motherhood alongside her professional responsibilities. She shared insights into the postpartum period and how her work provided unexpected support during this transitional phase.
“I am really happy about it. There’s something called postpartum that happens to women, not necessarily to everyone and motherhood can feel like a black hole at times. But because of Toaster and Raj, and I am glad the universe supported me this way, I didn’t feel it as much. I feel like I am a better mother to Parvati now. So thankfully, it’s a good space to be in,” she explained.
A Love Story Born on Set
The couple’s journey began professionally before evolving into a personal relationship. Rajkummar and Patralekhaa first met on the sets of the film CityLights, directed by Hansal Mehta. Their initial professional collaboration gradually developed into a romantic partnership, culminating in their wedding in November 2021. Their relationship has since grown to include both personal milestones like parenthood and continued professional collaborations.
Patralekhaa’s candid response to body-shaming highlights the ongoing challenges women face regarding societal expectations around appearance, particularly during vulnerable life transitions like postpartum recovery. Her message emphasizes the importance of compassion and understanding toward the physical changes that accompany pregnancy and childbirth.
