Panchayat Actor's Accidental Entry, Industry Struggles Revealed

From Security Guard to Panchayat Star: Vinod Suryavanshi's Accidental Acting Journey

Vinod Suryavanshi, who portrays the new Sachiv ji in the acclaimed web series Panchayat Season 3, has recently opened up about his unconventional path into the entertainment industry. In a candid interview, he revealed how he stumbled into films by pure chance and detailed the significant hardships he endured while working as a junior artist before achieving recognition.

An Accidental Entry into the Film World

Speaking to interviewer Siddharth Kannan, Suryavanshi disclosed that his acting career began completely by accident. "I entered the film industry by mistake," he confessed. "A friend called me and said I could stand in a crowd during a shoot and earn Rs 500." The basic benefits initially attracted him to this unexpected opportunity.

"I liked that I got breakfast, lunch, and Rs 500 by the end of the day," he explained. "It felt like a better job than anything I had done before. So I decided to continue, and that's how I started working as a junior artist." Comparing it to his previous employment, he noted a financial improvement: "As a security guard, I used to earn Rs 8,000 a month for 12-hour shifts. As a junior artist, I started earning Rs 10,000–12,000."

Mistreatment and Humiliation as a Junior Artist

Despite the better pay, Suryavanshi described an environment often filled with disrespect and humiliation. "No one speaks properly to junior artists," he stated. "They are often abused and humiliated. Assistant directors would mistreat us. Big actors never humiliated us." He shared a particularly painful incident that became a pivotal moment in his life.

"Once, I went to eat in someone's room, and a senior person snatched my plate and asked who I was," he recalled. "When I said I was a junior artist, he told me to eat where the junior artists' food was served." Even after explaining that the food there was finished, he was still turned away. "He told me to speak to my coordinator and not eat there. He took away my plate. That hurt me deeply," Suryavanshi added.

This experience fueled his determination to advance in acting. "That's when I decided I had to do something in acting—maybe then I would at least get to sit in a room and eat peacefully," he said.

Repeated Rejection Due to Appearance

Even as he pursued acting roles more seriously, Suryavanshi faced consistent rejection based on his looks. "I was rejected many times because of my looks," he revealed. "When I gave auditions for TV, they often wanted a 'rich look'. Even for a beggar's role, they wanted someone with a rich look. I was told I didn't fit the requirement."

He recounted a specific instance where he was dropped from a role because of his complexion. "I was selected for a role as a house help. The casting team had finalised me, and I reached on time for the shoot," he said. "But when the creative director came, she asked who I was. When they told her, she said no, this won't work—we need someone with a fair look. He is dark-complexioned, pack him up."

First Break and Career Progression

After years of perseverance, Suryavanshi finally secured his first substantial break on television. "My first proper role was in Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi, where I started earning Rs 2,500 per day, up from Rs 700," he shared. This marked a significant step forward in his career.

Since then, he has built a respectable portfolio, appearing alongside Akshay Kumar in Jolly LLB 3 and featuring in the web series Janaawar. His role as Sachiv ji in Panchayat Season 3 has brought him wider recognition, showcasing his talent to a broader audience.

Suryavanshi's journey highlights the often-unseen challenges faced by many aspiring actors in the industry, from accidental beginnings to systemic biases and personal determination. His story serves as an inspiration, demonstrating that success can emerge from perseverance despite numerous obstacles.
