The upcoming Bollywood film 'Dhurandhar' starring Ranveer Singh has found itself embroiled in yet another controversy, this time involving the widow of a celebrated Pakistani police officer. Naureen Aslam, wife of the late Chaudhary Aslam, has threatened legal action against the filmmakers if her husband is portrayed in a negative or false light.
Widow's Strong Reaction to Trailer Content
In a recent interview with Geo Digital platform, Naureen Aslam expressed her deep concerns about how the movie depicts her late husband. She specifically pointed to the use of words like 'devi and a jinn' in the trailer, which she found highly offensive and disrespectful to their Muslim faith. "We are Muslims and such words are disrespectful not only to Aslam but his mother as well, who was a simple, honest woman," Naureen stated emphatically.
The widow revealed that she is waiting to watch the complete film to fully understand how the makers have portrayed her husband's character, which is being played by veteran actor Sanjay Dutt. She made it clear that any misrepresentation would not be tolerated.
Legal Action Threatened Over Character Portrayal
Naureen Aslam didn't mince words when discussing potential legal recourse. "If I see my husband being portrayed wrongly or any propaganda against him in the film, I will definitely take all legal steps I can," she declared during her interview. She emphasized her husband's legacy as a brave and courageous police officer whose name was feared by criminals and terrorists throughout Karachi.
She also expressed surprise at the film's portrayal of Rehman Dakait as a major terrorist, noting that according to her husband's knowledge, he was primarily known as an extortionist, kidnapper, and criminal rather than a terrorist figure.
Background of Chaudhary Aslam and Previous Legal Challenges
Chaudhary Aslam was no ordinary police officer. He gained fame as an encounter specialist in Pakistan, earning widespread recognition for his bravery in combating terror and criminal gangs operating in Karachi. His career came to a tragic end on January 9, 2014, when the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Taliban's Mohmand chapter claimed responsibility for a bomb attack on his car on the Lyari Expressway.
The assassination resulted in multiple casualties, claiming the lives of Chaudhary Aslam along with two other police officers, his driver, and his guard. This incident marked a significant loss for Pakistan's law enforcement community.
This isn't the first legal challenge facing 'Dhurandhar.' The film was recently in news after the parents of Late Major Mohit Sharma, an Ashoka Chakra and Sena Medal awardee, approached the Delhi High Court seeking an urgent stay on the production.
