Academy Award-winning actress Natalie Portman has captivated audiences worldwide with her powerful performances in films ranging from iconic franchises to critically acclaimed dramas. However, there are two very important critics in her life who remain completely uninterested in her cinematic work: her own children.
Portman's Kids Show No Interest in Mother's Filmography
During the recent premiere of her latest film 'The Gallerist' at the Sundance Film Festival on January 24, Portman shared a surprising revelation with E! News. The actress, who shares two children with her ex-husband Benjamin Millepied, confessed that her kids actively avoid watching any of her movies.
"My kids are so resistant to seeing anything that I'm in," Portman revealed. "I was always like, 'Yeah, if you want to see it, like if some of your friends have seen it or whatever.' And they were like 'No, thanks.'"
The Reason Behind Their Resistance
Portman, who is mother to 14-year-old son Aleph and 8-year-old daughter Amelia, explained the psychology behind her children's reluctance. She believes they simply want to see her in what she considers her most important role: being their mother.
"They kind of just want to see me as me, which I appreciate," the actress stated, expressing gratitude for their perspective.
An Exception to the Rule
Interestingly, Portman did note one cinematic exception that caught her children's attention. In a previous conversation with People magazine, she revealed that her kids showed genuine interest in the animated film 'Arco,' which recently earned an Oscar nomination for Best Animated Feature.
The actress explained that this particular film resonated with her children because it "raised so many interesting conversations" for them. She added, "The story dealt with very pressing issues and offered so much inspiration and hope and encouragement of imagination for children."
Navigating Motherhood and Personal Life
Portman's comments come during a significant period of transition in her personal life. The actress filed for divorce from French filmmaker Benjamin Millepied in 2023 after a decade of marriage. Despite these changes, she appears focused on maintaining stability for her children.
In a recent interview profile with Jenna Ortega, Portman discussed how she's navigating her social life post-divorce. "I've been spending a lot of time with my friends, their kids and my kids," she explained, emphasizing the importance of community and family connections during this chapter of her life.
The actress's revelation offers a fascinating glimpse into the realities of celebrity parenting, where even an Oscar-winning career takes a backseat to the fundamental role of being a present and engaged mother.
