Nagarjuna Sets Record Straight on Dhurandhar Casting Rumors
Since its theatrical release, Aditya Dhar's blockbuster film Dhurandhar has dominated conversations across the nation. While Akshaye Khanna's portrayal of the menacing Rehman Dakait catapulted him to overnight internet fame, persistent rumors suggested that the role was initially offered to South Indian superstar Nagarjuna, who allegedly turned it down.
"Absolutely Not": Nagarjuna's Clear Denial
In a recent exclusive interview with Bollywood Hungama, Nagarjuna has definitively put these speculations to rest. The acclaimed actor clarified that he was never approached for the part that ultimately went to Akshaye Khanna, despite wishing otherwise.
"Absolutely not. I was not offered the role, though I wish I was... Dhurandhar is a superb film with really incredible direction by Aditya Dhar. I loved his earlier film Uri also! The acting by everybody in the film is superb, and Akshaye Khanna was particularly terrific. I am looking forward to the sequel and wishing them another blockbuster," Nagarjuna stated emphatically.
Audience Expectations and Nagarjuna's Milestone Project
Currently immersed in shooting his landmark 100th film, Nagarjuna emphasized taking a deliberate approach to this significant project. He revealed that the team is not rushing the production, aiming instead to create something truly special.
"We are not rushing anything. There is no hurry to complete the film. We want it to be very special. After witnessing the success of Dhurandhar, it has become abundantly clear that today's audiences demand international standards of storytelling," the actor shared, highlighting the evolving expectations of Indian cinema viewers.
What's Next for Both Stars
Nagarjuna was last seen in Bollywood in the 2022 fantasy epic Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva, where he portrayed Anish Shetty, the wielder of the Nandi Āstra, alongside stars Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. His upcoming film is scheduled for a January 15 release during the Sankranthi festival period.
Meanwhile, Akshaye Khanna is set to reprise his iconic role as Rehman Dakait in the highly anticipated sequel Dhurandhar: The Revenge, which is slated for a March 19 theatrical release. Following Dhurandhar 2, Khanna has additional projects lined up, including Mahakali and Ikka, ensuring his continued presence in the cinematic landscape.
The clarification from Nagarjuna not only dispels longstanding rumors but also underscores the professional respect among industry peers, with the veteran actor openly acknowledging the exceptional work of his contemporaries in creating one of the year's most talked-about films.
