Mumait Khan's entry into the entertainment industry began at the tender age of 13, driven not by parental pressure but by a keen awareness of her family's financial hardships. Born to a Pakistani father and a South Indian mother, she grew up in Mumbai, where she would walk to school to save Rs 1.50, depositing it into a piggy bank for her father. During these years, financially supported by her mother, she used the time for self-study and introspection, gaining weight due to seizure medication and reevaluating her future.
Reinvention Through Makeup and Hair
It was during this forced hiatus that Mumait discovered her passion for makeup and hair, realizing that acting didn't have to be her sole identity. She noted, "In every film, every song, I never repeated a look. Every time, it was different." This realization led to the creation of WeLyke Academy, her makeup and hair training institute in Hyderabad.
Explaining her choice of location, she said, "There's a gap in Hyderabad. In most of the South industry, we don't get that kind of treatment. I used to bring my hair, makeup, and styling teams from Mumbai. So I wanted to bring that standard here." The academy offers courses ranging from one to eight weeks, with fees between Rs 20,000 and Rs 50,000, and has partnerships with banks to provide education loans to students.
Personal Life and Unapologetic Attitude
At 40, Mumait is single by choice, attributing this to her early start in work and the sacrifices she made for her family. "I started working at 13. I sacrificed my teens, my 20s, my 30s. Then God put a break in my life," she explained. She has been in four serious relationships but now focuses on her business ventures.
Known for her love of tattoos and piercings, Mumait shared a rebellious anecdote: "My tongue swelled to triple its size for eight months after I pierced it. I was 18 and thought, I need a piercing. Everyone had ears, eyebrows, nose piercings—so I removed mine. Then I did a tongue piercing and said, 'Now copy me.'"
Controversies and Resilience
Mumait's public life has not been without controversies, including a feud with a cab driver and involvement in a drug investigation that led to her exit from Bigg Boss Telugu Season 1. She was eventually given a clean chit in the drug case and has faced judgment for her bold roles. However, she remains unapologetic, stating, "Society isn't paying my bills. My family thinks well of me—that's enough."
Looking back on her journey, Mumait expresses no complaints, only acceptance. "God gave me everything and took it away when he wanted. He won't let anything bad happen to me," she said.
