Mouni Roy Alleges Harassment at Karnal Event, Says 'I'm Humiliated and Traumatised'

Popular television actor Mouni Roy, widely recognised for her roles in hit shows like 'Naagin' and 'Devon Ke Dev...Mahadev', has come forward with serious allegations of harassment she reportedly endured during a recent public appearance in Karnal, Haryana. The actor took to her Instagram Stories to share a detailed account of the distressing incident, expressing feelings of humiliation and trauma.

Disturbing Incident Details Shared on Social Media

In her social media posts, Mouni Roy described the event as deeply unsettling, stating she was "disgusted with the behaviour of the guests", particularly highlighting two elderly men whom she referred to as "uncles who are well aged to be grandparents". According to her account, the uncomfortable situation began even before she reached the stage.

"As the event started and walked towards the stage, uncles and family members (all men) put their hands on my waist to click pictures," she wrote. The actor noted that when she politely requested them to remove their hands, saying "sir please remove your hand", her discomfort was met with disregard.

Escalation During Performance

The alleged harassment reportedly intensified during her stage performance. Mouni claimed that two men stood directly in front of the stage, making lewd remarks, displaying inappropriate hand gestures, and engaging in name-calling. She attempted to handle the situation calmly at first, gesturing politely for them to stop, but this only seemed to escalate their behaviour.

"They started throwing roses at me," she revealed. Mid-performance, the actor walked toward the stage exit but returned to complete her act. Despite this, the alleged harassment continued, with no intervention from family members or event organisers to remove the individuals from the front area.

Broader Concerns About Safety for Performers

Mouni Roy expressed concern about the broader implications of such incidents, particularly for newcomers in the industry. "If someone like me has to go through this, I can only imagine what new girls starting to work and do shows must face," she stated. The actor emphasised that she feels "humiliated, traumatised" and is calling for authorities to take action against what she described as "intolerable behaviour".

In subsequent Instagram stories, she highlighted additional disturbing elements, noting that the stage was elevated and the men were making videos from low angles. When asked to stop, they reportedly responded with abuse.

Appeal for Respect and Reflection

The actor made an emotional appeal, stating, "We are artists trying to earn an honest living through our craft." She questioned how these men would react if similar behaviour were directed at their own daughters, sisters, or family members, concluding with "Shame on you!"

Mouni also reflected on her love for the country and its traditions but expressed dismay at the "guts" and "entitlement of being men" displayed during the incident. She mentioned that she typically avoids sharing negative experiences but felt compelled to speak out about this particular event, stating she had "no words" or expressions adequate to describe such behaviour.

The incident has sparked discussions about safety and respect for performers at public events, with many expressing support for the actor and calling for stricter measures to prevent such occurrences in the future.
