Mona Singh's Personal Victory in Gaurav Gera's Dhurandhar Success
Gaurav Gera's standout performance in Aditya Dhar's blockbuster spy saga Dhurandhar has become a moment of personal triumph for his longtime friend and co-star Mona Singh. The duo, who first captured hearts as best friends Jassi and Nandu in the iconic television series Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin from 2003 to 2006, have maintained an unbreakable bond both on and off screen, consistently supporting each other's careers through every milestone.
A Friendship Forged in Television History
In Dhurandhar, a two-part espionage thriller that has taken the box office by storm, Gera portrays Mohammad Aalam, an Indian spy operating undercover as a juice vendor in Karachi's Lyari area. His character plays a crucial role in assisting Ranveer Singh's Hamza Ali Mazari to infiltrate the dangerous gang led by Akshaye Khanna's Rehman Dakait. This complex role marks a significant career achievement for Gera, who has been working diligently to establish himself in substantial film projects.
"Of course, it does feel like a personal victory," Mona Singh revealed in an exclusive interview with PTI. "I feel incredibly proud of him. He has worked exceptionally hard and truly deserves all the appreciation and accolades coming his way. Throughout our friendship, he has always been there when my shows are released, offering constructive feedback, telling me what he liked and what he didn't. Now, I'm doing the same for him. We're both celebrating each other's successes wholeheartedly."
Behind-the-Scenes Moments and Professional Wisdom
Interestingly, Singh and Gera recently crossed paths in Amritsar while filming their respective projects - Singh for Kohrra 2 and Gera for Dhurandhar. During their meeting, an excited Gera began showing Singh behind-the-scenes glimpses of his dramatic physical transformation for the role, which included a salt-white beard, textured aging makeup, and cropped hair.
Drawing from her own experience with strict non-disclosure agreements during her Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin days, Singh immediately cautioned her friend against sharing such sensitive material. "When you're so passionate about your craft, you definitely don't want to spoil that magic. You respect your work, the NDA, and everything that goes into creating a character," Singh explained. "A tremendous amount of detailing and time goes into building a character and story. When Gaurav was showing me all the pictures, I told him, 'Don't do this.' During my 'Jassi' days, I never showed my transformation pictures to anyone. There were strict NDAs, and you need to follow those protocols. So I told him, 'Mat kar' - don't show this to people, don't talk about your craft prematurely."
Singh added that while Gera was bursting with excitement about his significant role after a considerable gap in substantial projects, he understood the importance of maintaining confidentiality. "He responded, 'You're so right, I'm just excited.' He wanted to share this achievement with his friends because he was doing something so substantial after such a long time. But I'm pretty vigilant about these matters and make sure nothing leaks from the set," the actor emphasized.
Box Office Triumph and Ensemble Cast
Dhurandhar released in 2025, followed by its second installment Dhurandhar: The Revenge on March 19, both directed by Aditya Dhar. The first part of this action spy thriller amassed an impressive Rs 1000 crore globally, while the latest film has earned over Rs 1300 crore at the global box office, establishing itself as one of the highest-grossing Indian films of recent times.
The film features an ensemble cast including Sara Arjun, R Madhavan, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, Rakesh Bedi, and Danish Pandor in pivotal roles. Produced by Jyoti Deshpande and Lokesh Dhar, the movie was released in multiple Indian languages including Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam, contributing to its widespread success across diverse audiences.
Mona Singh's Current Career Momentum
Meanwhile, Mona Singh herself is enjoying remarkable career momentum with acclaimed performances across various platforms. Her recent projects include Aamir Khan's Laal Singh Chaddha, the detective series Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos, the critically acclaimed Amazon Prime series Made in Heaven, the dramatic series The Ba***ds of Bollywood, and the investigative thriller Kohrra. This diverse portfolio demonstrates her versatility as an actor capable of navigating both mainstream cinema and cutting-edge digital content.
The enduring friendship between Singh and Gera serves as a heartwarming example of professional camaraderie in the competitive entertainment industry, where genuine support and mutual celebration of success remain rare and precious commodities.
