Initial Reaction of Disbelief

During a conversation with ANI, Meiyang Chang revealed his immediate reaction to the tragic news. He said the first response from all batchmates, friends, and colleagues was complete disbelief.

"Our first reaction, from all of us, batchmates, friends, and people who have worked with him in production and on the channel for so many years, was that it had to be a joke," Chang stated emotionally.

He explained that they had just spoken to Prashant Tamang on his birthday on the 4th. Tamang was performing a show in Varanasi and planned to travel to Mumbai today to meet everyone. The suddenness of events left everyone stunned.

"Everything happened so suddenly. When we realised it wasn’t a prank and started confirming it with each other, it felt unreal. Even now, we still can’t believe it," Chang added.

Unfulfilled Plans and Family Support

Meiyang Chang disclosed that Prashant Tamang and other Indian Idol batchmates were planning a reunion trip to Darjeeling. This long-awaited plan was made specifically with Tamang.

"We had been planning to visit Darjeeling for a long time, and that plan was made with Prashant. We never imagined we would come here like this," he said, referring to the somber visit to West Bengal.

Chang extended heartfelt support to Prashant Tamang's grieving family. He mentioned Martha, Arya, Didi, and all family members directly.

"We are still in shock. All we can say to Prashant’s family—to Martha, Arya, Didi, and everyone—is to stay strong. We are all with you," he assured them.

Prashant Tamang's Unifying Legacy

The actor thanked the Nepali audience for their unwavering support of Prashant Tamang throughout his career. He highlighted Tamang's remarkable ability to unite people across communities.

"In Darjeeling, and wherever there is a Nepali audience that gave Prashant so much love, one thing always stood out—he united people," Chang recalled.

He emphasized that whether among friends or strangers, Nepali communities or people from the North-East, Prashant Tamang possessed a special talent for bringing everyone together.

"That spirit of unity is the lesson he left behind, and it’s something we must all hold on to and carry forward," Chang concluded thoughtfully.
