Heartbreaking Announcement by Brother Major Ravi
The news of his passing was confirmed by his elder brother, renowned actor-director Major Ravi. In an emotional Facebook post shared with a photograph, Major Ravi announced that his beloved younger brother breathed his last around 11:40 pm. The post, loosely translated from Malayalam, expressed profound grief, stating, “My beloved brother, Kannan Pattambi, who worked as a film production controller, passed away last night at 11:41 pm. My younger brother, Kannan Pattambi, has left for his heavenly abode. Om Shanti.” He also informed that the final rites would be conducted at 4 pm on Monday at their family home in Nhangattiri, Pattambi.
A Stalwart Behind the Scenes and On Screen
Kannan Pattambi was a respected figure in Mollywood, dedicating nearly three decades to the industry. While audiences recognized him from his acting roles, his primary contribution was as a dependable and disciplined production controller. Filmmakers heavily relied on him to ensure smooth operations and management on film sets, a crucial but often unsung role.
As an actor, he appeared in approximately 23 Malayalam films, often in supporting roles. Despite not being a lead actor, his performances were noted for their natural and honest portrayal. He had the opportunity to work in several major productions featuring top stars like Mohanlal.
Legacy of a Versatile Contributor
His filmography includes notable titles such as 'Punaradhivasam', 'Crazy Gopalan', 'Kandahar', 'Thanthra', and 'Mission 90 Days'. Throughout his career, he collaborated with many acclaimed directors, including his brother Major Ravi, Shaji Kailas, V K Prakash, Santosh Sivan, K J Bose, and Anil Medayil.
The passing of Kannan Pattambi marks the end of an era for the Malayalam film fraternity. He is remembered as a dedicated professional who contributed significantly both in front of the camera and, more importantly, behind it. His absence will be deeply felt by colleagues, friends, and family. The industry has lost a quiet pillar whose work was integral to the successful execution of countless films over the last 30 years.
