One of Bollywood's most iconic films, Lagaan, is set to complete 25 years on June 15. To mark this milestone, actor Aamir Khan and director Ashutosh Gowariker reunited with the cast and crew of the Oscar-nominated classic for a grand celebration in Mumbai on Saturday.
Nostalgic Reunion for the Lagaan Family
The event turned into a nostalgic reunion for the entire Lagaan family, with several cast members and industry colleagues coming together to celebrate the film's enduring legacy. However, what grabbed equal attention was Aamir's personal reunion with his former wives, Reena Dutta and Kiran Rao, making the evening a family affair as well.
Aamir Arrives with Girlfriend Gauri Spratt
Aamir was seen arriving at the celebration with his girlfriend Gauri Spratt. The couple, who confirmed their relationship in 2025, were photographed holding hands and posing happily for the paparazzi. Meanwhile, Kiran Rao arrived with their son, Azad Rao Khan, while Reena Dutta also joined the celebrations dedicated to the film she helped bring to life as executive producer.
Several members of the Lagaan cast, including Rajendranath Zutshi, Yashpal Sharma, Aditya Lakhia, and Akhilendra Mishra, were present. Filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani, Prasoon Joshi, Ashutosh Gowariker, and his wife Sunita Gowariker were also spotted at the event.
Ira Khan Celebrates Mother Reena Dutta's Contribution
A day before the reunion, Aamir's daughter Ira Khan shared an emotional tribute to her mother, Reena Dutta, as Lagaan completed 25 years and returned to theatres in a special re-release. Sharing a post on social media, Ira wrote, "My mamma made a beautiful film," along with hashtags celebrating the film and her mother's role as producer. The heartfelt post came as Reena Dutta's name appeared on screen as Executive Producer during a screening of the film, prompting Ira to cheer proudly for her mother. Ira's husband Nupur Shikhare also attended the celebrations on Friday.
A Film That Made History
Released in 2001, Lagaan remains one of Indian cinema's most celebrated films. Set during British colonial rule, the sports drama combined cricket, patriotism, and human resilience in a story that resonated with audiences worldwide. The film achieved international recognition when it became India's third movie to receive a nomination in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Academy Awards. It also enjoyed tremendous success at the 49th National Film Awards, winning eight honours, including Best Popular Film. The soundtrack composed by Oscar-winning musician AR Rahman continues to be cherished by fans even decades later.
Aamir Khan to Marry Gauri Spratt
On the personal front, Aamir is preparing for another major milestone. According to reports, the actor is set to marry Gauri Spratt in a simple registered ceremony on July 5 in the presence of close family members and friends. Aamir was previously married to Reena Dutta from 1986 to 2002, with whom he shares two children, Ira and actor Junaid Khan. He later married Kiran Rao in 2005, and the two amicably separated in 2021. They continue to co-parent their son Azad.
