Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon has voiced serious concerns about the deteriorating air quality in Delhi, calling the situation alarming and progressively worsening. The actress, who was promoting her upcoming film Tere Ishk Mein, chose to address the environmental crisis despite initial attempts to keep the focus on her movie.
A Delhi Native's Worry
During a promotional event for her film, Kriti Sanon was asked about Delhi's rising Air Quality Index (AQI). Although a representative initially tried to steer questions back to the film, the actress proceeded to share her genuine concerns. "I don't think commenting on Delhi air pollution will make any difference. It is getting worse and worse," stated Sanon, who originally hails from the national capital.
The actress emphasized her firsthand experience with the city's environmental decline, noting she remembers what conditions were like in the past. "Something needs to be done to stop it. Else, it will reach a point where we won't be able to see each other even while standing next to one another," she warned while her co-star Dhanush stood beside her.
Current Pollution Crisis
Delhi's air quality has once again reached hazardous levels, with the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) implementing stricter measures under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP). According to the Air Quality Early Warning System, the AQI on November 22 morning averaged 359, placing it in the 'very poor' category.
The situation appears even more critical in specific areas. Noida's Sector 125 recorded a severe AQI of 434, while the India Gate area showed an AQI of 370. The Akshardham and surrounding regions faced particularly dangerous conditions with a 'severe' AQI reading of 422.
Public Reaction and Response
Social media responses to Kriti Sanon's comments revealed divided opinions. Many users praised her courage for speaking out, with one commenting, "Salute to this Courageous Lady in an Industry full of Spineless Hypocrites." Another supporter noted, "Kriti Sanon is a Delhi girl & obviously worried about her parents' health. Good to see a Bollywood celeb raising this issue!"
However, some questioned the timing and context, with one user asking, "I seriously want to know why journalists are asking about air pollution during the promotions of a movie, which is a love story."
The ongoing pollution crisis continues to affect daily life in Delhi-NCR, with commuters navigating through thick smog during morning hours and authorities scrambling to implement effective countermeasures through the GRAP emergency action plan.
