Actress Kate Hudson has officially responded to the strong criticism and personal attacks from Michael Sardina Jr., the son of the real-life couple who inspired her latest film, 'Song Sung Blue'. The biographical drama, co-starring Hugh Jackman, has found itself at the centre of a controversy even as it receives praise for its performances.
Hudson's Brief But Respectful Response
In a recent conversation with The Hollywood Reporter, Hudson was directly asked about the harsh comments made by Michael Sardina Jr., who labelled both her and Jackman as "monsters." The actress chose to keep her reply concise and diplomatic. "Honestly, I don't even know. Out of respect for our filmmakers, I'm not the right person to speak to it," Hudson stated.
She shifted the focus to the positive experience of meeting Claire Sardina, the real-life figure she portrays in the movie. "I'm so happy that I got to know Claire, who's such a wonderful woman, and she's so happy with the movie," Hudson concluded, highlighting the approval from one of the story's central subjects.
The Source of the Controversy: Michael Sardina Jr.'s Grievances
The film 'Song Sung Blue' tells the story of Claire Sardina and her late husband Mike "Lightning" Sardina, a duo who gained worldwide fame with their Neil Diamond tribute act. Last month, their son, Michael Sardina Jr., expressed deep dissatisfaction with the project in an interview with The Daily Mail.
He revealed that while he was initially hired as a consultant for the film, he was later purposefully cut out of the creative process. He argued that the final product does not do justice to his father's legacy and that he desires "the real thing" to be told.
His anger escalated when discussing the film's promotional press tour. "Every interview that those monsters have been on national television don't even mention my existence at all," he claimed, emphasising his role as his father's only son. He further accused the production of not attempting to contact him for more information, suggesting they could have easily reached out through director Craig Brewer.
