Karan Johar Shuts Down K3G Sequel Rumors and Takht Revival Speculation
Renowned Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar has definitively addressed and dismissed widespread speculation regarding potential sequels and revivals of his past projects. In a recent interview, he confirmed that there are no plans to create a sequel to his iconic 2001 family drama Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham and that his shelved historical epic Takht is not currently being revived.
No Plans for Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham 2
Johar explicitly stated, "There is no Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham 2 and there is no derivative of Takht being made." He elaborated on his decision, emphasizing the immense nostalgic value associated with the original film. "I would never make a K3G 2 because I am not saying that it was the best film ever made, every film has its flaws, but what K3G has an abundance is nostalgia," he explained.
The director highlighted how multiple generations have grown up watching and cherishing the film, expressing gratitude for its enduring legacy. "There are generations that have grown up watching that film, they love it, and I’m very grateful for the universe that I got to create a film that still lives on. I am very proud and happy with it, but I will never mess with that nostalgia, that love that film has received," Johar added. He warned that attempting a sequel could be disastrous, stating it would set him up for failure.
Takht Remains Shelved for Now
Regarding the much-anticipated historical drama Takht, which was announced in 2020 with a star-studded cast but later shelved, Johar provided a clear update. "And there isn’t a revival of Takht as of now on the cards, but that is a film I will definitely make while I can breathe and stand," he affirmed. He credited writer Sumit Roy for the screenplay, calling it the strongest work of his career.
"I consider it the strongest screenplay developed with Sumit Roy, full credit to him. He is the writer of the film, and I believe it is the best piece of work in my career, and I hope to make that film one day," Johar remarked. The film was initially set to feature an ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh, Kareena Kapoor, Alia Bhatt, Vicky Kaushal, Bhumi Pednekar, Janhvi Kapoor, and Anil Kapoor, but faced delays and eventual shelving due to various factors, including the COVID-19 pandemic.
Secret New Project in Development
In a surprising revelation, Karan Johar hinted at a new project that is currently under wraps and has not been publicly discussed. "What I am actually developing, nobody is talking about that, and thank god for that," he said. He added that amidst the rumors about K3G 2, the film he is actively writing and developing remains completely unknown to the public.
"In the garb of the K3G 2 rumor, the film that I am actually writing and developing, nobody has any idea about that," Johar concluded, sparking curiosity about his next cinematic venture. This announcement shifts focus from his past works to an exciting, undisclosed future project, keeping fans and industry watchers eagerly anticipating further details.
