From Sacred Games to Jailer 2: Jatin Sarna's Dream Villain Role with Rajinikanth
For countless actors across India, sharing screen space with the legendary Rajinikanth remains an ultimate career aspiration. Jatin Sarna, widely recognized for his compelling performance in the hit series Sacred Games, has now turned that dream into reality not once, but twice. His latest achievement—portraying the antagonist in the highly anticipated sequel Jailer 2—represents what he describes as "a manifestation that played 2x" in his professional journey.
A Long-Awaited Destiny and Personal Inspiration
In an exclusive conversation with Hindustan Times, Sarna revealed the profound personal connection that made this opportunity feel predestined. "Many won't believe this, but it's absolutely true," he shared. "For years, I've kept Rajinikanth sir's framed photo from the movie Kaala above the door in my living room. It bears the iconic line 'Kya Re'—a constant source of inspiration that pushed me to ask myself, 'What are you doing, man!'"
This personal shrine to the superstar preceded his first collaboration with Rajinikanth in the 2020 film Darbar. Now, landing the villain role in Jailer 2 feels like the universe amplifying that initial breakthrough. "It was then I got to do Darbar, and now this sequel, which is actually 2x," Sarna explained, emphasizing the multiplicative effect of this career milestone.
Overcoming Career Hurdles and Industry Recognition
Despite earning critical acclaim and a growing fanbase through projects like Sacred Games, Sarna candidly discussed the challenges he faced in securing substantial roles. "People have loved me and my work, but whether that translated into opportunities, I can't judge," he reflected. "Yes, my fan base has increased, and makers know that I know my job! But the kind of work I was expecting—where you get characters and roles with good space—I was not getting. It's happening now!"
The actor also addressed the professional setback of Sikandar (2025), a film that paired him with industry giants Salman Khan and director A.R. Murugadoss but failed at the box office. "I did feel very low and questioned my choices," Sarna admitted. "But I am fighting back. I want to get more opportunities to play, so I can bring more to the table."
Dismissing Shah Rukh Khan Rumors and Embracing South Indian Cinema
When asked about speculation regarding potential scenes with Shah Rukh Khan in Jailer 2, Sarna firmly dismissed the buzz. "I have wrapped my shoot, and I am not aware of any such development," he stated. "I won't be able to comment on that."
Instead, he focused on the positive exposure gained from working in South Indian cinema. "I grew up watching Rajini sir and have so many memories attached to him," Sarna said. "The bright side is, I got great exposure in the South Indian industry. I learnt and spoke Tamil. Much to my surprise, I received compliments that I was able to adapt to it."
Looking Ahead with Selective Resolve
As he navigates his evolving career, Sarna emphasized a philosophy of intentional choice. "I am just walking my path, being choosy with a resolve that I won't do anything just for the sake of being seen," he declared. This selective approach, combined with his recent high-profile collaborations, signals a promising new chapter for the actor who has patiently waited for roles worthy of his talent.
With Jailer 2 on the horizon, Jatin Sarna stands at a career crossroads where years of inspiration, perseverance, and strategic choices are converging into what he views as a doubly manifested dream—a testament to the power of dedication in the competitive world of Indian cinema.
