Isha Koppikar Demands Stricter ID Checks to Stop Underage Drinking

Actress Isha Koppikar has issued a strong condemnation of the pervasive issue of underage drinking in pubs and bars across the country. She asserts that minors are routinely served alcohol without any proper identification verification or scrutiny, describing a culture of "no questions asked, no accountability." Koppikar is demanding immediate implementation of tougher ID enforcement rules to safeguard young lives.

Isha Koppikar Calls Out Negligence in Pubs and Clubs

On her official Instagram account, Koppikar uploaded a powerful video slamming pubs, clubs, and regulatory officials for their lax oversight and failure to adhere to legal standards. She declared emphatically, "This is not fun, this is pure negligence." The actress recounted a recent distressing incident where a young girl became excessively intoxicated, losing all control, and a friend had to step in to manage the dangerous fallout.

Koppikar posed a critical question to highlight the severe risks involved: "Imagine if there was no responsible person present, what could have happened?" She pointed to the serious hazards at play, emphasizing that every overlooked ID check endangers a young life and contributes to a broader public safety crisis.

Koppikar Pleads for Child Protection as a Concerned Mother

Drawing from her personal experience as a mother to a 12-year-old daughter, Koppikar expressed how deeply these concerns resonate with her on an emotional level. She urged the entire system to "Please strictly follow the rules and protect our children." The actress went further by imploring authorities and venue owners to prioritize safety over profits through ironclad adherence to regulations.

In a pointed message, she stated, "I would like to tell them that before profit, please look at the responsibility. Responsibility comes first. Whether a pub or restaurant belongs to an influential or powerful person should not make a difference. The law cannot bend based on status. There should be no disparity, the rules are the same for everyone."

Collective Responsibility and Parental Vigilance

Koppikar further emphasized the need for shared responsibility in addressing this critical issue. She called on parents to maintain a close watch and stay actively engaged in their children's lives and social environments. The actress noted, "In today's time, our children need guidance, boundaries and a safe environment the most."

She clarified that her intent is not to assign blame but to foster awareness, prevention, and care. Koppikar warned, "This is not a blame game. It is about awareness, prevention, and care. A small negligence can change someone’s life. Don’t wait for a tragedy—wake up now."

Context Amid NESCO Centre Overdose Deaths

Koppikar's urgent warning comes amid a tragic incident where two youths died from a drug overdose at a concert held at the NESCO Centre in Mumbai. The First Information Report, accessed by The Free Press Journal, alleges that organizers violated multiple rules, including permitting underage drinking, allowing events to continue past legal closing times, and having security flaws that enabled drugs to enter the venue.

According to the report, alcohol was served to individuals under the age of 25, including deceased victim Shreya Rai, despite strict legal bans prohibiting such actions. This case underscores the severe consequences of regulatory failures and highlights the critical need for stricter enforcement as advocated by Koppikar.
