Imran Khan Returns to Bollywood After a Decade with Special Cameo
Bollywood actor Imran Khan has finally stepped back onto the big screen. He made his return after nearly ten long years away from acting. Khan did not come back with a major starring role. Instead, he chose to appear in a fun cameo for the new film 'Happy Patel'.
A Decision Rooted in Friendship and Fun
Imran Khan explained his surprising return in simple terms. He said he wanted to work with people he genuinely enjoys. The actor emphasized that he is not chasing stardom or box office rankings anymore. For him, making films should come from a place of pure joy.
"Not everybody wants the same thing from their careers," Khan stated clearly. "I am not seeking to build myself into a very big star. I do not need to be the biggest star or even in the top three."
According to PTI reports, Khan spent the last two years reading many scripts. Nothing excited him until he heard about 'Happy Patel'. This film marks the directorial debut of his longtime friend Vir Das. The two actors previously worked together on the popular film 'Delhi Belly'.
The FOMO That Brought Him Back
Khan revealed an interesting reason for his cameo. He experienced serious FOMO - fear of missing out. He learned that Vir Das and actress Mithila Palkar were making a spoof spy comedy together. The idea of his friends having fun without him proved too much.
"I was struck with FOMO," Khan admitted with honesty. He immediately texted Vir Das with a simple request. "I would love to be in your film. Can you include me somewhere?"
Das responded positively to his friend's message. He wrote a special cameo role specifically for Imran Khan. In the film, Khan plays an international supermodel named Milind Morea. The two friends originally planned to keep this appearance a secret. However, news about the cameo leaked out quickly.
Reflecting on His Long Break from Films
Imran Khan opened up about his extended absence from Bollywood. He stepped away after his films 'Katti Batti' and 'Gori Tere Pyaar Mein' failed commercially. The actor described his initial reaction to those box office disappointments.
"At first, you have that feeling, 'Oh no, my film has flopped'," Khan recalled. "But I had made those films with love and with friends. I truly enjoyed the creative process."
The actor now finds himself in a comfortable financial position. This security allows him to be selective about projects. Khan stated he will only take on a film if he absolutely loves it. "Unless I love the film and really want to make it, I won't. I will only make a film if I feel FOMO," he explained.
Khan emphasized his fundamental approach to filmmaking. "The reason that I ever made films was to play with my friends," he said. For him, art should always come from "a place of love and joy."
About Happy Patel and Its Box Office Performance
The quirky spy comedy 'Happy Patel: Khatarnak Jasoos' released in theaters on January 16, 2026. The film follows an interesting protagonist. Happy Patel is the adopted son of two gay British secret agents. He dreams of joining the elite MI7 covert agency but fails spectacularly. Instead, he gets sent to Goa on a risky rescue mission connected to his Indian roots.
At the box office, the Vir Das-led film had a modest beginning. It earned approximately Rs 1.25 crore on its opening day. The film saw a small increase on its second day. It collected about Rs 1.50 crore on day two. This brought its total India net collection to roughly Rs 2.75 crore over two days.
Imran Khan expressed surprise at the attention his cameo received. "It's all a lot more than one would have imagined," he said about the public reaction. His return to films, driven by friendship rather than ambition, marks a refreshing chapter in his career.
