FIR Registered in Lucknow Against Manoj Bajpayee's Controversial Film 'Ghooskhor Pandat'
In a significant development that has sent shockwaves through the Indian entertainment industry, an FIR has been officially lodged against the production team behind Manoj Bajpayee's upcoming film, 'Ghooskhor Pandat'. The legal action was taken at the Hazratganj Police Station in Lucknow following widespread complaints that the movie's title and content deliberately insult a specific caste and threaten public harmony.
Police Take Cognizance of Community Complaints
According to official reports from ANI, Station House Officer Inspector Vikram Singh of Kotwali Hazratganj initiated the legal proceedings after receiving multiple formal complaints regarding the film and web series. The authorities have stated that the production is scheduled for broadcast on social media platforms and an OTT service, amplifying concerns about its potential reach and impact.
The police investigation has determined that the title 'Ghooskhor Pandat' appears to have been intentionally crafted to target and humiliate the Brahmin community by directly linking the term "Pandat" with corrupt practices and bribery. Law enforcement officials have noted substantial anger and resentment brewing among community members and various social organizations, with some groups already threatening organized protests against the film's release.
Legal Proceedings and Zero Tolerance Policy
The FIR has been registered under appropriate legal sections against producer Neeraj Pandey and his entire production team. Police authorities have emphasized their commitment to a zero-tolerance approach toward any content that threatens community sentiments or disrupts social peace. Further legal procedures and comprehensive investigations are currently underway to determine the full extent of the alleged violations and appropriate subsequent actions.
Simultaneously, parallel legal challenges are unfolding in Delhi, where a writ petition has been submitted to the Delhi High Court. The petition, filed by Mahender Chaturvedi through Advocate Vineet Jindal, urgently seeks a complete stay on the release and streaming of the Netflix film. The legal document argues that the title and proposed content are fundamentally defamatory and communally offensive, damaging the dignity and historical reputation of the Brahmin community.
Producer's Response and Production Details
In response to the escalating controversy, producer Neeraj Pandey has issued an official statement via social media platforms. "In light of these concerns, we have decided to take down all promotional materials for the time being," Pandey announced. He further explained that the creative team believes the film should be experienced in its complete narrative context rather than being judged based on partial glimpses or isolated elements.
The film 'Ghooskhor Pandat' is directed by Ritesh Shah and features an ensemble cast including Manoj Bajpayee, Nushrratt Bharuccha, Divya Dutta, Saqib Saleem, Shraddha Das, and Kiku Sharda. Despite earlier promotional activities, no official premiere date has been announced as production teams reassess their release strategy amid the legal challenges and public controversy.
The petition filed in Delhi specifically requests that the Union Government and Netflix India intervene to prevent the film's release under existing digital content regulations. The legal argument emphasizes that streaming the content could cause irreversible damage to community relations and social harmony, creating precedents that might encourage similar controversial portrayals in future productions.
