Producer Withdraws 'Ghooskhor Pandat' Title Amid Allegations of Anti-Brahmin Bias

In a significant development, the producer of the upcoming film 'Ghooskhor Pandat' has officially withdrawn the title following allegations of anti-Brahmin bias, which led to FIRs and court petitions. On Thursday, the producer filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court, informing the bench of the decision to cease using the title and any words that had offended a section of society in the Manoj Bajpayee-starrer.

Supreme Court Proceedings and Producer's Affidavit

Senior advocate Neeraj Kishan Kaul, representing producer Neeraj Pandey, addressed a bench comprising Justices B V Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan. He stated that due to concerns raised over the teaser since its release on February 3, all promotional material had been withdrawn. Kaul emphasized that the film is a fictional police drama centered on a criminal investigation and does not portray any caste, religion, community, or sect as corrupt.

In his affidavit, Pandey declared, "I respectfully submit that the earlier title, 'Ghooskhor Pandat', stands unequivocally withdrawn and shall not be used in any manner whatsoever. While the new title has not yet been finalised, I undertake that any title that may hereafter be identified and adopted shall not be similar to, or evocative of, the earlier title in respect of which objections were raised and shall accurately reflect the narrative and intent of the film without giving rise to unintended interpretations."

Court's Response and Closure of Proceedings

The Supreme Court bench accepted the affidavit and ordered the closure of the proceedings, bringing an end to the legal disputes surrounding the film. This move highlights the producer's commitment to addressing societal sensitivities and ensuring that the film's content does not inadvertently cause offense.

The decision to withdraw the title comes amid growing scrutiny of media content and its impact on social harmony. By taking this step, the producer aims to refocus attention on the film's narrative as a police drama, distancing it from the controversies that had emerged.

This incident underscores the importance of careful consideration in film titling and promotion, especially in a diverse society where cultural and religious sentiments can be easily hurt. The producer's proactive approach in responding to feedback and legal challenges may set a precedent for handling similar issues in the future.
