From Fashion Design to Film Stardom: Drishika Chander's Unique Journey
Drishika Chander, a graduate of the prestigious Parsons School of Design in New York, has carved an unexpected path into the world of acting. As the daughter of Nandi Award-winning costume designer Deepa Chander, she grew up immersed in cinema, yet her entry into the industry was gradual and organic rather than predetermined.
Academic Foundation Meets Artistic Expression
Before embracing acting, Drishika prioritized her education, which she credits with instilling crucial professional qualities. "Academics taught me discipline and patience, and acting requires the same," she explains. Her journey began on the theater stage, where she honed her craft before naturally transitioning to screen roles, avoiding any forced career decisions.
The Breakthrough Role That Changed Everything
In 2020, Drishika captured widespread attention with her performance in the critically acclaimed Telugu short film Manasanamaha. The project achieved remarkable success, earning a Guinness World Record and global recognition. "My performance earned me over 40 international Best Actress awards," she reveals. "That project gave me confidence and made me realize the kind of impact storytelling can have."
Expanding Her Cinematic Portfolio
Since her breakthrough, Drishika has appeared in multiple Telugu films including Bucchi Naidu Kandriga and A Beautiful Girl, alongside Hindi projects like Hey Kameeni. She continues to maintain her theater roots, recently performing in Evam Indrajit, noting that "Theater teaches you to stay present and honest in a performance."
Upcoming Projects and Future Aspirations
Her upcoming Telugu film Suyodhana, a mystery thriller directed by YS Madav Reddy, features her alongside Priyadarshi in what she describes as an emotionally layered role. "It's not a loud character. A lot of what she feels is internal, and that made it challenging. You have to convey so much without saying too much," she explains about her character.
Having established herself in Telugu and Hindi cinema, Drishika is now expanding into Malayalam films. Fluent in multiple languages, she expresses keen interest in exploring diverse regional industries. "I don't want to limit myself," she states. "For me, it always starts with the story—if I connect with it, everything else follows."
This Hyderabadi actress represents a new generation of performers who blend formal education with artistic passion, creating a unique trajectory in Indian cinema that promises continued growth and exploration across linguistic and cultural boundaries.
