Casting Director Mukesh Chhabra Reveals Dhurandhar's Star Ensemble Was Difficult to Assemble

Initial Hesitation from Major Stars
In a revealing interview, Chhabra explained that most actors initially expressed uncertainty about joining the project. "Only R Madhavan agreed instantly," Chhabra disclosed. "Initially, even Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt and Akshaye Khanna were not sure about being part of the film. For the others, it took considerable time and persuasion."
The casting director elaborated that the scale of the project evolved dramatically during pre-production. "Aditya and I were considering numerous actors, and honestly, we never initially envisioned casting so many prominent stars," Chhabra admitted. "We had completely different types of performers in mind initially. Then I encouraged Aditya to think bigger and aim for a more substantial ensemble."
Gradual Assembly of the Cast
Chhabra described how the star-studded lineup gradually came together through persistent effort and negotiation. "When you begin a major film project, you naturally wonder how so many established actors will agree to participate," he reflected. "At first, none of these casting arrangements existed, but gradually, through extensive discussions and planning, everything started falling into place."
Screen Time Concerns in Multi-Starrer Productions
A primary concern that emerged during casting negotiations involved screen time allocation, a common issue in films featuring multiple prominent actors. Chhabra addressed this directly with potential cast members, emphasizing quality over quantity.
"Madhavan and Arjun Rampal were on set for only twelve days each," Chhabra revealed. "Most performers typically worry about how much screen presence they will receive in multi-star projects. We assured them that in Dhurandhar, impact mattered more than duration."
The casting director highlighted R Madhavan's role as a perfect example of this principle. "If you examine Madhavan's contribution, despite requiring just twelve to fourteen days of filming, the impact of his character proves enormous," Chhabra emphasized. "This demonstrates that powerful performances can transcend limited screen time."
