Dharmendra's Final Film 'Ikkis' Shot in Lucknow

In a poignant cinematic moment, Sriram Raghavan's upcoming war drama 'Ikkis' revealed a powerful poster featuring legendary actor Dharmendra on the very day the beloved star passed away at age 89. The film, extensively shot across Lucknow, now stands as a fitting tribute to the actor's enduring legacy in Indian cinema.

Lucknow Transforms for War Drama

For 10-12 days in November 2023, several prominent areas in Lucknow underwent a remarkable transformation, becoming Pakistani locations for the shooting of 'Ikkis'. According to line producer Arun Singh Dicky, who spoke exclusively to TOI, Dharmendra stayed at a hotel in Gomtinagar during his Lucknow schedule and shot extensively at multiple iconic locations.

The filming spanned City Station, Tila Wali Masjid, Lalbagh, Kaiserbagh, Cantonment areas, and outskirts like Kakori. This marked Dharmendra's first film shooting in Lucknow despite his decades-long career, making the experience particularly special for both the actor and local residents.

Dharmendra's Heartwarming Presence in Lucknow

During his stay, Dharmendra's off-screen charm matched his on-screen presence, as he effortlessly won hearts across the city. "Dharmendra's persona was a perfect blend of elegance, warmth, and charm, living up to the high expectations of fans across generations", revealed Dicky.

The veteran actor's down-to-earth nature and fatherly warmth drew thousands of adoring fans to the 'Ikkis' sets, where he mesmerized them with his gracious blessings and genuine interactions. His visit also included a meeting with Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, who felicitated the actor with a token of appreciation for his contributions to cinema.

The Emotional Story of Ikkis

In 'Ikkis', Dharmendra plays Brigadier ML Khetarpal, the father of Second Lieutenant Arun Khetarpal - a young tank commander in the Indian Army remembered as a true hero of the Indo-Pak war of 1971. Khetarpal was posthumously awarded the Param Vir Chakra for his extraordinary courage.

"The second half of the film belongs to Dharmendraji", Dicky explained, detailing how the actor's character travels to Pakistan to meet the Pakistani Brigadier who killed his 21-year-old soldier son. The role of the Pakistani Brigadier is portrayed by 'Paatal Lok' actor Jaydeep Ahlawat.

The production team also celebrated Diwali together in Lucknow, soaking up the festive spirit in the city of Nawabs. The film's shooting had shifted to Lucknow from Punjab, where initial portions were completed, with the historic streets and vibrant traditions of Lucknow providing the perfect canvas for this story of sacrifice, courage, and friendship.
