Dharmendra's Final Act: 'Ikkis' Crew Reveals His Unwavering Dedication at 89
Dharmendra's Final Film 'Ikkis' Crew Shares Touching Memories

The release of veteran actor Dharmendra's final film, 'Ikkis,' on January 1, has prompted heartfelt recollections from those who worked alongside him. Crew members are now sharing poignant memories that highlight the legendary star's unwavering professionalism and spirit, even in his final days.

The 3 AM Qawwali That Showcased His Spirit

In a recent interview, choreographer Vijay Ganguly recalled a particularly challenging night shoot for a qawwali sequence. The scene, set during the character's college reunion, was filmed in the early hours, around 2:30 to 3 am. Knowing that Dharmendra was not fully comfortable physically, the team advised him to take it easy.

"We told him he only had to dance a little and could do whatever he felt comfortable with," Ganguly shared. However, Dharmendra noticed the younger actors performing a coordinated leg step while holding each other's shoulders. His immediate response was to ask, "Why can I not do this?" Despite concerns from the team, who insisted dancing wasn't crucial for the scene, Dharmendra was not one to step back easily.

Overcoming Physical Challenges for the Shot

Vijay Ganguly revealed that even the simple act of standing up was difficult for the actor at that time. Dharmendra was sitting because getting up repeatedly was a challenge. Yet, driven by a deep-seated need to give his all, he insisted on rising and performing the steps alongside his younger co-stars.

"He insisted on doing the steps," Ganguly stated, noting that the team eventually had to request he stop to avoid exhaustion from multiple retakes. For Dharmendra, this wasn't just about the character; it was personal. He was determined to prove his capability and deliver 100 percent. His commitment moved everyone on set. He even asked for the song lyrics to memorize them, preparing for potential lip-syncing, showcasing his meticulous approach till the end.

Hema Malini Reflects on a Family's Loss

In a separate emotional interview, Dharmendra's wife, actress Hema Malini, opened up about the profound loss. She described his passing as "an inconsolable shock." The family had rallied together for a month while he was unwell, with children Esha, Ahana, Sunny, and Bobby all present.

Hema Malini recalled that there was hope, as he had previously returned from the hospital in good health. He had even wished her a happy birthday on October 16. The family was actively planning celebrations for his upcoming 90th birthday on December 8. "To personally see him sink was very difficult. Nobody should have to go through this kind of situation," she expressed, highlighting the painful reality of their final days with the beloved patriarch.

The stories from the sets of 'Ikkis' and the family's reflections paint a unified portrait of Dharmendra: a man of immense passion and resilience who cherished his craft and his family until his very last moments.
