Dev Anand Waited Outside Amitabh Bachchan's Home for Half an Hour
Bollywood icon Dev Anand experienced a long wait outside Amitabh Bachchan's residence. His close friend Mohan Churiwala revealed this incident in a recent interview. The veteran actor stood at the gates of Bachchan's home Jalsa for nearly thirty minutes.
Details Emerge from Recent Interview
Mohan Churiwala spoke with journalist Vickey Lalwani about the episode. He disclosed that this happened almost two decades ago in 2007. Dev Anand visited Bachchan's home with Churiwala to deliver autographed books.
The visit followed a book launch event for Dev Anand's autobiography Romancing with Life. Amar Singh had promised to bring Amitabh Bachchan to the launch. Singh also mentioned that Tina Ambani and Anil Ambani would attend.
Book Launch Created Tension
Churiwala explained the background of the situation. Amar Singh initially indicated the group would have dinner with Dev Anand after the launch. However, all four guests departed before the program ended. They did not even take the autographed books prepared for them.
Despite repeated calls, Amar Singh did not respond immediately. He called back late at night and arranged for book delivery the next morning. Dev Anand decided to accompany Churiwala to personally deliver the copies.
The Long Wait at Jalsa
The two men arrived at Bachchan's residence the following morning. They waited outside for over thirty minutes before Amar Singh appeared. Singh came out wearing a night suit. The wait for Amitabh Bachchan continued even longer.
Churiwala noted that all parties involved were affiliated with the Samajwadi Party. They felt uncomfortable with the Congress party's presence in Maharashtra. Vilasrao Deshmukh led the Congress government at that time.
Reasons Behind the Wait
Years after Dev Anand's death in 2011, Amar Singh provided an explanation. He told journalist Vir Sanghvi that entry into Jalsa required approval from the Bachchan family. Security restrictions caused the delay in allowing Dev Anand inside.
This incident did not sit well with Dev Anand's fans. Many described the situation as humiliating for the beloved actor. Dev Anand remains one of Bollywood's most revered icons from the 1950s and 1960s.
Amar Singh had a close relationship with Dev Anand. He regularly met the actor during visits to Bombay. Singh even played the home minister in Dev Anand's final film Chargesheet.
