In a momentous celebration of cinematic history, Bollywood icons Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol journeyed to London to unveil a permanent tribute to their most beloved characters. The duo revealed a bronze statue of Raj and Simran from the timeless classic 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' (DDLJ) at the iconic Leicester Square.
A Historic First for Indian Cinema
The installation is part of the prestigious 'Scenes in the Square' cinematic trail and marks a significant milestone. DDLJ has become the first Indian film ever to be honoured with a statue in this celebrated London location. The event was specially organised to commemorate the 30th anniversary of the film's release, which first captivated audiences in 1995.
Following the unveiling, Shah Rukh Khan took to social media to share his joy alongside Kajol. He posted a heartfelt note in his signature style, writing, "Bade Bade Deshon Mein, Aisi Chhoti Chhoti Baatein Hoti Rehti Hain, Senorita!" He expressed his thrill at the unveiling and highlighted the honour's significance, stating his delight that DDLJ is the pioneering Indian film on the trail.

In his remarks, Khan delved into the film's enduring magic. "Watching the statue being unveiled in London felt like reliving a piece of our history," she said, emphasising that the story has travelled across generations. Since its 1995 debut, 'Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge' has secured its place as the longest-running film in the history of Hindi cinema. Its influence continues to expand, with a successful English-language stage musical, 'Come Fall In Love – The DDLJ Musical', playing to packed houses in Manchester earlier this year.
