Bollywood actress Daisy Shah has launched a scathing critique against political campaigners after a firecracker mishap during electioneering led to a significant fire in a residential apartment building in Mumbai's Bandra East area. The actress, who lives in the same complex, shared her anger and footage of the incident on social media, highlighting a severe lapse in safety and civic responsibility.
Fire Erupts During Door-to-Door Campaigning
In a series of videos posted on her Instagram account, Daisy Shah described the alarming sequence of events. She stated that approximately 200 people associated with an election campaign were moving through the locality. During their activities, they set off firecrackers, one of which entered a neighbouring flat, directly causing the blaze. Shah emphasized that her own residence was adjacent to the affected apartment, forcing her to evacuate as the fire intensified.
The actress expressed particular concern for elderly residents within the building premises, noting that the campaigners seemed oblivious to the risks they were creating. "They don't even realize that older people also live in the premises. The fire is getting worse," she said in her initial video.
Shah Demands Accountability and Condemns Lack of Civic Sense
In a strongly-worded caption accompanying her post, Daisy Shah clarified that her outburst was not politically motivated but was a citizen's reaction to negligence. "I have got nothing to do with any political party!!! But when you hire teams to run campaigns for your elections, please make sure they have some common sense in them," she wrote.
She revealed that her building's committee had wisely refused permission for the campaigners to conduct door-to-door visits, a decision that likely prevented a worse scenario within her own wing. Shah squarely blamed the incident on a lack of civic sense, calling the perpetrators "brainless" and stating the fire was a man-made disaster, not a natural calamity. Her central demand was clear: "TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY … IT'S HIGH TIME."
Names BJP, Highlights Victim's Plight
In a follow-up video, Daisy Shah provided more context and specifically named the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) as the political group involved in the campaign. She explained her reason for naming the party was to ensure someone took responsibility for the damage caused.
"I named a political party (BJP) so that accountability is taken, step into it, and come to a conclusion because that poor guy has lost his house," she stated. Shah mentioned that the gutted apartment belonged to a civil servant who was fortunately not home at the time, which also contributed to the fire spreading unchecked.
She reiterated that her stance was not political but that of a concerned citizen raising her voice against a wrong. "I am all heart for those who wish good for their country," she added, while questioning the need to burst firecrackers during campaigns, especially in densely populated residential areas. She suggested such activities should be confined to open grounds.
On the professional front, Daisy Shah, known for her role in Salman Khan's Jai Ho, was last seen in the music video "Bairagiya" in December.
