Mumbai Court Issues Injunction Against YouTuber CarryMinati in Karan Johar Defamation Case
A Mumbai civil court has taken decisive action in a high-profile legal dispute between Bollywood filmmaker Karan Johar and popular YouTuber Ajey Nagar, widely known by his online alias CarryMinati. The court has issued a temporary injunction, formally restraining Nagar from creating, publishing, or uploading any content deemed "defamatory, vulgar, and abusive" targeting Johar.

According to reports from news agency PTI, the order was passed by Civil Judge P G Bhosale on Monday. The legal action stems from a suit filed by Karan Johar, who alleged that specific videos circulating on various social media platforms were designed to ridicule him and inflict damage upon his professional reputation and goodwill, which he stated had been "painstakingly built over decades."
The court's directive extends beyond the YouTuber himself. It also orders social media platforms to take down Nagar's existing videos that target the filmmaker. In a notable specification, Meta, the parent company of Facebook and Instagram, was explicitly instructed to remove the contentious content.
Parties Involved and Legal Arguments
The lawsuit names multiple defendants alongside Ajey Nagar. These include his manager, Deepak Char; his associated company, One Hand Clap Media Pvt Ltd; and technology giants Google and Meta. Johar, represented by the legal firm DSK Legal, sought this temporary injunction to prevent Nagar and his associates from continuing to produce and disseminate such material.
During the court hearing, the legal counsel representing the YouTuber presented a key argument. They submitted that the videos and other material in question had already been deleted from online platforms. Based on this, they contended that there was no remaining cause of action requiring judicial intervention.
Court's Prima Facie Findings and Future Hearing
However, after considering arguments from all involved parties, Civil Judge P G Bhosale arrived at a different conclusion. The judge held that, based on initial evidence, it "prima facie appears that the defendant no 1 and 2 (Nagar and Char) have made defamatory statements and used vulgar language against the plaintiff."
This prima facie finding formed the basis for granting the temporary injunction in favor of Karan Johar. The legal proceedings are not concluded, as the case is scheduled for further hearing at a later date, where more detailed arguments and evidence will likely be presented.
