Bharath Opens Up About Early Career Hurdles and Director's Casting Doubts
Actor Bharath has candidly discussed the significant challenges he faced at the start of his career, particularly while promoting his upcoming film 'Kaalidas 2.' In a recent interview, he revealed that director Balaji Sakthivel was initially uncertain about casting him in the pivotal role for the film 'Kaadhal.' This hesitation stemmed from concerns about whether Bharath could authentically portray a small-town mechanic, given his distinctly urban look and personality.
Director's Reluctance Due to Urban Appearance and Character Fit
Speaking with Galatta, Bharath elaborated on the director's doubts, explaining that Balaji Sakthivel was worried about his appearance not matching the rooted, local character required for the role. "He explained my character, but till the shoot started, he was hesitant about me because of my colour. I am a proper, urban-looking personality," Bharath said. The director reportedly struggled to envision him as a Madurai-based mechanic who needed to embody a specific local accent and demeanor.
This initial reluctance became a major hurdle before the film could proceed, as the production team emphasized complete realism in casting. Bharath's city-boy image seemed at odds with the gritty, small-town setting, leading to prolonged discussions and uncertainty about his suitability for the part.
Overcoming Doubts Through Preparation and Producer Support
Faced with this skepticism, Bharath decided to prove his capabilities through dedicated effort and meticulous preparation. "I had greased my face for the audition all by myself," he revealed, showcasing his commitment to transforming into the character. He drew on personal observations from his time in Choolaimedu, stating, "I knew what the lifestyle of the lower middle class was like," which helped him connect deeply with the role's essence.
His hard work paid off when producer S. Shankar saw his screen test and became a strong advocate for his casting. Bharath recalled, "The screen test happened in Shankar sir's office, and I later bought a house on the same street," describing this as a proud and emotional milestone in his career journey. Shankar's backing was crucial in overcoming the director's initial reservations and securing Bharath the role.
Looking Ahead to 'Kaalidas 2' and Career Aspirations
Now, Bharath is focused on the release of 'Kaalidas 2,' directed by Sri Senthil, which serves as a sequel to the thriller 'Kaalidas.' The film has generated considerable interest among fans, with its theatrical release imminent. Through effective campaigning and positive promotion, 'Kaalidas 2' could mark a turning point in Bharath's career, as he aims to achieve greater heights in the film industry.
This story highlights not only the personal struggles actors often face in breaking typecasting but also the importance of perseverance and support in navigating the competitive world of cinema. Bharath's experience underscores how initial doubts can be transformed into opportunities for growth and success.
