Ayushmann Khurrana-Sara Ali Khan Film Stalled Over Release Strategy
Ayushmann-Sara Film Stalled Over OTT vs Theater Debate

Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan's Action Comedy Faces Major Delay

Bollywood stars Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan began filming their much-anticipated action comedy in mid-2024. The production team completed the first shooting schedule in Manali, Himachal Pradesh by late 2024. Everything appeared smooth during those initial months of work.

Production Comes to a Complete Halt

After finishing the Manali schedule, the cameras stopped rolling completely. More than a year has passed since any filming occurred. The movie originally targeted a first-half 2026 release, but that plan now seems uncertain at best.

Despite having major producers Karan Johar and Guneet Monga Kapoor attached, the project has failed to move forward. Industry insiders confirm that both actors remain ready to continue shooting. The entire crew stands prepared as well. Yet nobody knows when production might resume.

A recent Mid Day report captured the situation perfectly: "It is a quirky, fun story. Everything was on track when the team began shooting the first schedule in mid-2024 in Manali, Himachal Pradesh. But after that, the movie, which was to release in the first half of 2026, has been stuck for over a year. The actors and the crew are keen to resume filming, but there's no clarity on when the project will return to floors."

The Critical Release Platform Debate

The central conflict revolves around distribution strategy. Initial plans called for a traditional theatrical release. However, discussions about premiering the film directly on an OTT platform began several months ago.

These conversations continue without resolution. The same report further explained: "There have been discussions about whether it should take the web route and be released as an OTT original. The talks have been going on for months, while the shoot has been on hold."

Producers Dharma Productions and Sikhya Entertainment cannot reach agreement on a single distribution plan. This fundamental disagreement reportedly keeps the entire project paused indefinitely.

Untitled Project with Promising Talent

Interestingly, the film still lacks an official title. Everyone refers to it simply as an untitled action comedy. Debutant director Aakash Kaushik helms the project. Kaushik already earned recognition for writing the successful horror-comedy 'Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2.'

Many industry observers expressed excitement about his directorial debut. The pairing of Ayushmann Khurrana and Sara Ali Khan generated considerable fan interest. Audiences expected a fresh, entertaining collaboration between these popular stars.

Instead, the film remains stuck in limbo. Everyone involved awaits a clear decision about its future. The combination of production delays and distribution uncertainty creates a challenging situation for all parties.
