"Anybody would pray for that kind of a role," she remarked, highlighting its significance.
However, Irani alleged that Rekha intervened to have her scenes cut from the film. "Rekha ji humari, voh dene hi nahi deti thi, ki nahi Aruna ka role bhut accha hai," Irani stated, translating to "Rekha ji, for instance, she just wouldn’t allow it. She said, 'No, Aruna’s role is too good.'" According to Irani, while they maintained a friendly personal equation, professional insecurities led Rekha to express reservations about how strongly Irani's character would come across on screen, ultimately resulting in her portions being reduced.
Removal from 'Mangalsutra' Over Emotional Performance Fears
Irani also shared a more painful incident involving the film 'Mangalsutra', where she was initially signed as the second lead. She revealed that Rekha had her removed from the project despite their friendship. "Rekha removed me from a film even though she was a good friend of mine. She still is," Irani said, adding that when she questioned the producer about her removal after receiving a signing amount, she was told, "Rekha ji never wanted you in the film."
Upon confronting Rekha directly, Irani received a blunt explanation. "When I asked Rekha why she did it, she said, 'Aruna, if you pulled off the role too well emotionally, I’ll start looking like a vamp in the film.' So she cut me off," Irani recounted, illustrating how fears of being overshadowed emotionally motivated the decision.
