Arijit Singh's Father Votes in Bengal Polls First Phase

The first phase of polling for the West Bengal Assembly elections commenced on Thursday morning, with singer Arijit Singh's father, Surinder Singh, arriving at a polling booth in Murshidabad to cast his vote. After voting, Surinder Singh spoke to the media and shared that the process was smooth and peaceful at the booth.

Smooth Voting Process

Surinder Singh expressed his satisfaction with the voting arrangements. He said, "Everything is good. May everything go well. There is no problem at all. Voting is going on smoothly. I have cast my vote." He also wished that the elections continue in the same peaceful manner throughout.

Election Details

In West Bengal, political parties are contesting for 294 Assembly seats. According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), the first phase covers 152 Assembly constituencies, while the second phase will include the remaining 142 seats. A total of 1,478 candidates are in the fray in this phase. The counting of votes is scheduled for May 4.

Key Contenders

Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is aiming for a fourth consecutive term in office. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which secured 77 seats in the previous election, is making a renewed push to form the government in the state.
