Rather than relying solely on the film's screenplay, Gourav deliberately immersed himself in the specific socio-cultural environment that shapes his character's worldview. "When I came on board Tu Yaa Main and started developing Maruti, I knew early on that I couldn't approach the character only through the script," Gourav explained. "He comes from a very specific socio-cultural space, and to do justice to him, I needed to understand the world that shapes his voice, rhythm, and attitude."
Connecting with the Rap Community Across Mumbai
As part of this comprehensive deep-dive, the actor traveled extensively across Mumbai's diverse neighborhoods, meeting and interacting with numerous influential rappers from the underground scene. His journey included:
- Meeting Vijay Dada in Govandi
- Spending time with Gravity and Shakespeare in Nalasopara
- Visiting Kurla to connect with Neazy
- Heading to Dharavi to meet Akku and 7 Bantai

These interactions went far beyond superficial meetings. "We jammed and spoke about life, music, struggle, and ambition," Gourav shared, emphasizing the depth of these connections.

"Being around them helped me understand where the hunger comes from and how their sound is rooted in their surroundings," Gourav reflected. "Music becomes a way of survival, expression, and identity. All of that organically fed into building Maruti beyond what was written."
Physical Transformation and Artistic Respect
To physically ground the role and enhance authenticity, Gourav even got an eyebrow piercing, aligning his appearance with the character's aesthetic. More importantly, the experience fostered a deep respect for the underground rap community.
"I wanted the character to feel lived-in, not performed," Gourav emphasized. "This process gave me a deep respect for the underground rap community, and I hope that honesty reflects on screen."
