Aamir Khan's 'Sitaare Zameen Par' Set for Streaming Debut on Sony LIV
In a significant announcement, Sony LIV revealed that superstar Aamir Khan's sports comedy-drama 'Sitaare Zameen Par' is poised to make its streaming debut on the platform, nearly a year after its theatrical release. Directed by R S Prasanna, the film originally hit cinema halls across India in June 2025, where it garnered immense praise for its heartwarming narrative and stellar performances, amassing over Rs 250 crores at the box office.
A Milestone for Sony LIV
SonyLIV highlighted in a statement that this streaming premiere marks a pivotal milestone, as 'Sitaare Zameen Par' will become the first Hindi theatrical film to debut on their service. This move underscores the evolving landscape of digital distribution in the entertainment industry, bridging the gap between traditional cinema and online platforms.

The film, a remake of the Spanish movie 'Champions', features Aamir Khan in the role of Gulshan Arora, an assistant coach of a major basketball team. After being dismissed from his job, his life takes an unexpected turn following a drunk-driving incident that lands him in court. Innovative Distribution Strategy
In July 2025, just a month after its theatrical debut, Aamir Khan made headlines by bypassing traditional OTT platforms. Instead, he released 'Sitaare Zameen Par' directly on his YouTube channel, Aamir Khan Talkies, under a pay-per-view model. Viewers could access the film by paying approximately Rs 100 per view. At the time, the actor described this approach as an effort to enhance cinema accessibility and experiment with novel digital distribution methods.
Aamir Khan explained to PTI: 'This is my private cinema chain. Think of it like Aamir Khan Productions has opened a new cinema chain, which is in everyone's house and in everyone's pocket... I received attractive offers from OTT channels, but I chose not to pursue those Rs 100-125 crore deals. My preference is to earn Rs 100 directly from my audience, fostering a more personal connection.'
Legacy and Cultural Impact
'Sitaare Zameen Par' serves as a follow-up to Aamir Khan's critically acclaimed 2007 film 'Taare Zameen Par', which explored the struggles of a dyslexic child portrayed by Darsheel Safary. This new installment continues the tradition of addressing meaningful social themes through engaging storytelling, resonating deeply with audiences and critics alike.
The streaming debut on Sony LIV is expected to further amplify the film's reach, allowing a broader audience to experience its inspirational message and entertainment value. As the entertainment industry continues to adapt to digital trends, this release highlights the dynamic interplay between theatrical success and online accessibility.
