In a recent interview with Variety India, Bollywood superstar Aamir Khan opened up about the much-discussed train scene from the 2023 blockbuster Pathaan. This scene features Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan in a lighthearted moment where they humorously debate who could possibly replace them in the film industry, subtly suggesting their own indispensability.
Aamir's Perspective on the Tongue-in-Cheek Moment
Aamir Khan admitted that he hasn't watched Pathaan in full, as he doesn't watch many films, but he was informed about the scene and later viewed it on YouTube. He described it as a playful and amusing exchange. "It was tongue-in-cheek. It was about the film, but it was also about outside the film. Usme masti, mazaak tha (It was said in fun)... and people laughed as well," he remarked, highlighting the meta-nature of the dialogue that resonated with audiences.
Praising the New Generation of Actors
While the scene was crafted for laughs, Aamir Khan believes that the younger generation of actors has already demonstrated their capabilities through their work. He pointed out that many viewers speculated about the underlying message of the scene, but today, young stars have answered with their performances. "Without taking names, a lot of people guessed what they were trying to say. But today, those same young actors have shown us that not only are they there, they can give us a run for our money — Chhaava Vicky Kaushal, Animal Ranbir Kapoor, Dhurandhar Ranveer. They're there. They're very capable of taking over from us," Aamir stated.
He further emphasized their talent, suggesting they might even surpass the previous generation. "I would say they are very talented actors, perhaps more talented than us. They are staking a claim for a rightful place. So they have answered without saying anything, they've answered with their work. Which is fantastic. I really appreciate that. It's wonderful to see that," he added, applauding their dedication and skill.

The scene in question occurs during an action sequence aboard a moving train in Pathaan, where Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan's characters battle villains. After catching their breath, they jokingly ponder who will take over the reins of Indian espionage from them. This moment has been widely interpreted as a meta-reference to the future of Hindi cinema, with the two stars quipping that they might have to continue shouldering the responsibility themselves due to a lack of suitable replacements. Salman Khan appeared in the film in a cameo role as Avinash Singh Rathore, also known as Tiger.
