Aamir Khan's Surprising Confession: Romantic Films Were Forbidden in His Childhood
Watching Aamir Khan light up the screen in romantic comedies has always been a delightful experience for audiences, but in a startling revelation, the actor has disclosed that he was not permitted to view such films during his formative years. In a recent candid conversation, the celebrated Bollywood icon delved into the details of his conservative upbringing and his unconventional relationship with the world of cinema.
Strict Household Rules and a Lifelong Love for Reading
Aamir Khan admitted that even he finds some of his personal habits rather astonishing, particularly his preference for reading books over watching films. He shared that he has been a passionate reader since his early childhood and has consistently enjoyed black-and-white movies, which were among the few types of entertainment allowed in his home.
Reflecting on the stringent environment of his youth, Aamir explained in an interview with Variety India, "We were not allowed to watch films. So, at that time, I remember, if I had asked my mom if I could watch a film, she would say yes, but romantic films were strictly prohibited." This restriction highlights the conservative values that shaped his early life, contrasting sharply with his later career in an industry often associated with romance and drama.
From Filmmaker to Non-Watcher: A Unique Perspective on Cinema
Interestingly, despite achieving monumental success as one of Bollywood's most prominent figures, Aamir Khan revealed that he hardly ever watches movies. He elaborated on this surprising fact by saying, "I entered the filmmaking profession at the age of 18, starting as an assistant. I don't want to sound patronising, but as a lighthearted analogy, some people play football and some people watch football. Similarly, I make films; I barely watch them. That's the honest truth. I rarely watch films, so I'm unaware of the latest releases or what's trending in Hollywood. I exist in my own creative bubble and don't really consume much visual content."
This perspective offers a fascinating glimpse into the mindset of an artist who prioritizes creation over consumption, setting him apart from many of his peers in the entertainment industry.
Upcoming Projects and Professional Endeavors
On the professional front, Aamir Khan was last seen in a cameo role in Happy Patel and made a brief appearance in Vir Das' directorial debut. Looking ahead, he has an exciting lineup of projects that promise to captivate audiences:
- His production venture Ek Din, featuring Junaid Khan and Sai Pallavi, is scheduled for release on May 1.
- Lahore 1947 is set to hit theaters in August.
- He also hinted at another project titled Ati Sundar, which is expected to debut later this year.
These upcoming films showcase Aamir's continued dedication to storytelling and his influential role in shaping contemporary Indian cinema, even as his personal viewing habits remain minimal.
