Farhan Akhtar's cinematic tribute to a legendary Indian military stand, the war drama '120 Bahadur', is poised for a digital resurgence. After a theatrical run that saw modest box office returns, the film inspired by a true story from the 1962 Indo-China conflict will premiere on a major streaming platform, aiming to connect with a vast new audience.
Digital Premiere Details and Box Office Journey
The film is scheduled to begin its digital streaming life on Amazon Prime Video from January 16, 2026. This OTT release comes nearly two months after its initial cinematic debut on November 21, 2025. Industry reports indicate this move is expected to grant the film a significantly wider reach following its performance in theatres.
'120 Bahadur' opened its box office account with ₹2.38 crore on its first day. Over its opening weekend, it managed to collect ₹7.06 crore worldwide. The cumulative collection after two weeks, including the third weekend, settled at approximately ₹20 crore, figures that prompted the shift to a digital strategy for broader viewership.
The Historic Story and Stellar Cast
Directed by Razneesh ‘Razy’ Ghai, '120 Bahadur' powerfully recreates the Battle of Rezang La, a revered and poignant chapter from India's military annals. The film marked Farhan Akhtar's return to the big screen, with his performance anchoring a narrative centred on supreme valour.
The plot focuses on the legendary bravery of Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, who was posthumously honoured with the Param Vir Chakra. He led a company of the 13 Kumaon Regiment in a near-impossible defence. The cast supporting Akhtar includes Raashii Khanna, Sparsh Walia, Vivan Bhatena, Dhanveer Singh, and others, with Ajinkya Deo and Eijaz Khan portraying senior officers.
Remembering the Battle of Rezang La
The actual battle was fought on November 18, 1962, at the Rezang La pass in eastern Ladakh, a location soaring to about 16,000 feet above sea level. Against all odds, a company of roughly 120 Indian soldiers faced several thousand Chinese troops. They battled not only the enemy but also extreme weather and critically limited supplies.
Under the leadership of Major Shaitan Singh Bhati, these men displayed unimaginable courage and resolve. Even as casualties rose alarmingly, they refused to retreat from their post. Major Bhati, severely wounded, continued to move from position to position under heavy fire, leading and inspiring his men until the end. His sacrifice and leadership turned this stand into an enduring symbol of Indian military grit.
Produced by Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, and Amit Chandrra, the film had its world premiere in the Gala section at the 56th International Film Festival of India. It received praise from critics for its intense battle sequences and performances, though some noted the screenplay could have delved deeper. With its OTT release, '120 Bahadur' now gets a second chance to bring this seminal story of patriotism and sacrifice into homes across the nation and beyond.
