The Kirti Chakra is the nation's second-highest peacetime gallantry award. Furthermore, annuities of ₹65,000 each have been sanctioned for Major Sunil Yadav and the families of martyr Major Salman Ahmad Khan and master warrant officer (HFL) martyr Keshav Nath Upadhyay.

Recognising a District of Heroes

The list of honour extends to several other distinguished officers and personnel from the district. The other recipients of the annuity support include:

  • Colonel Baburam Kushwaha

  • Asit Kushwaha

District Magistrate Jitendra Pratap Singh stated that a total of Rs 7.15 lakh has been approved for Kanpur Nagar district under this head for the financial year 2025-26.

A Rare Feat of Valour

The presence of ten such decorated heroes from a single administrative district is a remarkable feat. This makes Kanpur Nagar one of the very few districts in the entire country to boast such a wide and distinguished representation of high-level military honours. The state government's annuity scheme provides sustained financial assistance to the families of these brave soldiers, ensuring that their sacrifice is remembered and honoured with tangible support.

The initiative underscores the government's commitment to the welfare of armed forces personnel and their families, recognising their unparalleled contribution to national security. The official notification brings both recognition and material support to the homes of these local heroes, cementing Kanpur's legacy as a land of valour.
