The 56th International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa concluded on a spectacular note this Friday, with veteran actor Rajinikanth receiving a prestigious lifetime achievement award. The event, held on November 28, served as a grand celebration of the 74-year-old superstar's remarkable five-decade-long journey in the film industry.

A Standing Ovation for a Living Legend

As Rajinikanth walked onto the stage to accept his honor, the audience rose to their feet, giving him a heartfelt and prolonged standing ovation. In an emotional speech, the actor reflected on his long career, which he said felt surprisingly short. He described the milestone as deeply meaningful and shared that his 50 years in cinema felt as if they had passed in just 10 or 15 years.

In a moment that resonated with everyone present, Rajinikanth expressed his profound love for acting. He stated that if given the chance, he would willingly choose the same life again. "If there are 100 more janams (lives), I would like to be born as an actor and Rajinikanth," he declared, showcasing his undying passion for the craft.

Lal Salaam Shines at IFFI

The festival also featured a special screening of Rajinikanth's recent film, Lal Salaam. The Tamil-language sports action drama, released in 2024, is directed by his daughter, Aishwarya Rajinikanth. The filmmaker expressed immense happiness and pride at her film being premiered at this globally recognized festival.

Produced by Allirajah Subaskaran under the Lyca Productions banner, the film's inclusion in the festival lineup added to the celebratory atmosphere surrounding the Rajinikanth family.

The 56th edition of IFFI was a significant gathering that brought together filmmakers, artists, and industry professionals from across the globe. The festival not only honored contemporary stars like Rajinikanth but also paid tribute to the centenary year of several cinematic legends.

The event highlighted restored screenings of influential works by iconic figures such as:

  • Guru Dutt
  • Raj Khosla
  • Ritwik Ghatak
