The 18th edition of the Newsmakers Achievers Awards 2026, organized by Vaidehi Taman in Mumbai, brought grassroots changemakers into the spotlight alongside achievers from various fields. The ceremony, held in the presence of Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, emphasized impactful work in social service and community development that often remains outside mainstream visibility.
Governor Honours Distinguished Figures
The Governor honoured notable personalities such as Usha Mangeshkar, Hariharan, Sanjeev Kapoor, Rahi Bhide, Sushma Deshpande, and Datta Bargaje for their contributions and lifetime achievements. Other awardees included Dilip Joshi, Atul Tiwari, Pooja Bedi, Devinder Walmiki, Vijay Kumbhar, Anuja Dhakras, Ajjibaichi Shala, and Lt. Kushagra Pathak (IFS), representing excellence in entertainment, theatre, wellness, sports, journalism, social education, and wildlife conservation.
Vision Behind the Awards
Sharing her vision, Vaidehi Taman said, "This platform honours not just success, but the spirit of perseverance, integrity, and contribution. Each awardee represents a journey that inspires society to strive for excellence with purpose."
Social Impact Category
In the social impact category, Seva Vivek Sanstha was recognized for its grassroots work. A representative said, "This honour belongs to every volunteer and beneficiary who has been part of our journey. Our work has always been about collective effort and community strength." Ajjibaichi Shala, which empowers elderly women through education, was also honoured. Founder Yogendra Bangar stated, "Education has no age. Seeing grandmothers write their names for the first time is a moment of pride—not just for them, but for all of us."
Datta Bargaje, known for supporting HIV-positive orphaned children, remarked, "These children are not just beneficiaries; they are our family. This recognition is a reminder that compassion and care can change lives." Dr. Asha Mirge, recognized for women's empowerment, noted, "When a woman becomes self-reliant, an entire family progresses. This award strengthens our commitment to continue working at the grassroots level." Krishna Mohini, honoured for promoting inclusivity, said, "Representation matters. Through my work, I hope to create acceptance and inspire others to embrace their identity with pride."
