Patna celebrated the legacy of the mathematical genius Srinivasa Ramanujan by honouring hundreds of young talents from across Bihar. The state's Department of Science, Technology and Technical Education (DSTTE) organised a grand felicitation ceremony on National Mathematics Day, which coincides with Ramanujan's birth anniversary.
Celebrating Young Mathematical Minds
The event, held at Gyan Bhavan, saw the presence of 532 meritorious students from classes 6 to 12. These students had secured top positions at both district and state levels in the prestigious Srinivasa Ramanujan Talent Search Test in Mathematics-2025. The chief guest for the occasion was Science, Technology and Technical Education Minister Sunil Kumar.
In a significant recognition of their achievement, twenty-one state-level toppers were awarded laptops, certificates, and mementoes. The ceremony served as a powerful inspiration for students, connecting their present success with the timeless legacy of Ramanujan.
Inspiring Words and a Vision for the Future
DSTTE Secretary Pratima, who welcomed the gathering, extended her greetings to Minister Sunil Kumar, noting this was his first major event since assuming charge. She addressed the winners and their parents, drawing parallels with Ramanujan's own journey.
“Ramanujan, despite limited means, made extraordinary contributions to mathematics,” Pratima said. “His life reminds us that challenges can never suppress true talent. He continues to inspire generations, teaching us that curiosity and dedication can transform the impossible into possible.”
Holistic Development and Educational Reforms
Pratima outlined the department's broader vision, which extends beyond academic excellence to empowering students for a changing world. She highlighted key initiatives that are reshaping technical education in Bihar:
- Enhanced Faculty Quality: The appointment of BPSC-qualified faculty in engineering and polytechnic institutions has significantly improved educational standards.
- Industry-Relevant Courses: New programmes in leather technology, food processing, and AI-integrated fields have been introduced to meet market demands.
- Student-Centric Infrastructure: A comprehensive approach includes health sub-centres, clinical psychologists for mental well-being, and foreign language programmes in Japanese, French, and German.
- Modern Facilities: The establishment of Centres of Excellence, state-of-the-art laboratories, smart classrooms, open gyms, and sports grounds aims to ensure the all-round growth of every student.
The event underscored Bihar's commitment to nurturing not just academic proficiency but also the holistic development of its youth, ensuring they are well-equipped for future challenges and opportunities.
