Andhra Governor Honors Achievers at Basava Kalyana Ceremony
In a significant cultural event that celebrated the legacy of Basavanna's philosophy, Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer presented the prestigious Anubhava Mantapa National Awards to several distinguished individuals on Saturday. The ceremony took place at Basava Kalyana in Bidar district, where the governor made profound statements about the historical significance of Anubhava Mantapa in democratic traditions.
Anubhava Mantapa: The Foundation of Democracy
Governor Nazeer delivered a powerful address during the inauguration of the 46th 'Sharana Kammata' and Anubhava Mantapa Utsav, organized by the Vishwa Basavadharma Trust Anubhava Mantapa. He declared that regardless of differing opinions, the initial parliament that laid the groundwork for democracy was Basavanna's Anubhava Mantapa. This statement highlighted the progressive nature of the 12th-century institution that welcomed participants from all backgrounds.
The governor emphasized the contemporary relevance of Basava's principles, stating that by adhering to these teachings, society can establish a welfare state that serves everyone. He further elaborated on the spiritual aspect of Basava's philosophy, noting that if one's inner self is pure, there is no necessity to visit any religious site - a testament to the inward-looking nature of the movement.
Recognition for Distinguished Contributors
The award ceremony saw several notable personalities receiving recognition for their contributions to society. Among the recipients were playwright Basavaraj Bengeri and SG Sushilamma, founder of Sumangali Seva Ashram in Bengaluru. These awards acknowledge their significant work in promoting cultural values and social service, aligning with the principles championed by Basavanna.
Governor Nazeer specifically commended the efforts of Vishwa Basavadharma Trust president Basavalinga Pattaddevaru, who has been diligently promoting the Sharana principle across communities. The event also saw participation from several dignitaries including District Minister Eshwar B Khandre, MLA Sharanu Salagar, Nirmalanandanath Swamiji of Adichunchanagiri Mutt, and State Child Rights Protection Commission president Shashidhar Kosambe.
Major Development Project Underway
District Minister Eshwar B Khandre revealed significant developments regarding the Anubhava Mantapa project during the event. The project has been funded with a substantial grant of Rs 700 crore, indicating the government's commitment to preserving and promoting this important cultural heritage. The minister announced that the building is expected to be inaugurated by the end of 2026, marking a milestone in the preservation of Basavanna's legacy.
The event served as both a recognition ceremony for contemporary achievers and a reminder of the enduring relevance of Basavanna's teachings in modern democratic society. The gathering at Basava Kalyana, where the original Anubhava Mantapa flourished, added historical significance to the proceedings, connecting present-day celebrations with centuries of philosophical tradition.
