The 79th Annual Tony Awards, Broadway's most prestigious celebration, are currently underway, honoring the finest productions and performances of the season. The evening commenced with the 'Act One' preshow, hosted by Laura Benanti and Tituss Burgess, before transitioning to the main ceremony at Radio City Music Hall. This year's telecast is being hosted by singer Pink.
Leading Nominations
'The Lost Boys' and 'Schmigadoon!' have emerged as the night's most-nominated shows, each securing 12 nominations across various categories. Close behind is the acclaimed revival of 'Ragtime' with 11 nominations, while 'Death of a Salesman' and 'Cats: The Jellicle Ball' each earned nine nominations. A total of 24 Broadway productions are competing across 26 categories.
Special Performances and Anniversaries
In addition to the competitive categories, the ceremony is set to celebrate several landmark anniversaries in Broadway history. Special performances will honor long-running and influential musicals including 'The Book of Mormon', 'Chicago', and 'A Chorus Line'. Audiences can also expect performances from all seven nominees competing in the Best Musical and Best Musical Revival categories.
Best New Musical Race
The race for Best New Musical is shaping up to be one of the night's most competitive contests, with four distinctly different productions vying for the top honor: 'The Lost Boys', 'Schmigadoon!', 'Titaníque', and 'Two Strangers (Carry a Cake Across New York)'.
