Hyderabad's Young India Skills University Trains 1000+ Students, Aims for 2026 Degree Launch
Young India Skills University Trains 1000+ Students

Hyderabad's Young India Skills University (YISU) has crossed a significant threshold, successfully providing skills-based training to more than 1,000 students by the end of December 2024. This milestone marks a major step in the institution's mission to create a job-ready workforce for modern industries.

A Bridge from Classroom to Career

Established as a special initiative of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, the university was formally launched with the laying of its foundation stone on August 1, 2024. It operates on a unique public-private partnership model, designed specifically to equip students who have completed intermediate or degree courses with immediately applicable professional skills. The goal is clear: to ensure graduates can secure employment right after finishing their studies.

The university's leadership reflects its blended model. CM Revanth Reddy serves as the Chancellor, while the board of management is chaired by noted industrialist Anand Mahindra and includes other prominent industry leaders. VLVSS Subbarao holds the position of Vice-Chancellor, overseeing daily operations.

Industry-Aligned Courses and Powerful Partnerships

Training at YISU is sharply focused on high-demand sectors. The university offers programmes in:

  • Logistics and Supply Chain
  • Healthcare and Life Sciences
  • Pharmaceuticals
  • Banking and Financial Services
  • Information Science and Technology

These are delivered through short-term and certification courses. Crucially, the university has forged strong alliances with corporate giants including Microsoft, Reddy's Labs, AIG Hospitals, Apollo Hospitals, and GMR Cargo. These partners are integral to the model, providing students with internships, hands-on practical training, and direct pathways to job opportunities as part of a government-supported initiative.

The Roadmap: From Temporary Campus to a Permanent Home

Currently, the training programmes are being conducted from a temporary campus situated at IIIT Hyderabad. However, the vision for a sprawling, permanent home is rapidly taking shape.

The future campus is being constructed in Bharat Future City and will span an impressive 58 acres. The first phase of this ambitious project is already underway and is slated for completion by March 2026. This initial phase will boast 43 modern classrooms, a hostel with a capacity of 600 students, and a state-of-the-art laboratory complex.

The Academic Ascent: Degree Programmes on the Horizon

The infrastructure development aligns with a major academic expansion. The university has announced plans to begin offering full-fledged degree and postgraduate courses starting from the 2026–27 academic year. This transition will elevate YISU from a skills training centre to a comprehensive university, blending traditional academic rigour with its core ethos of industry-ready skill development.

The progress of Young India Skills University represents a concrete shift in Telangana's educational landscape. By directly linking training to corporate needs and building a world-class campus, it aims to become a national benchmark for creating employment-focused graduates, fueling both individual careers and the state's economic growth.
